Recall that this material performs the function of the upper layer in clothing, which protects a person from the cold and at the same time removes moisture, not allowing him to get wet. By structure, all membranes are divided into non-pore, pore and combined.
Features of non-pore membrane jackets
Such a tissue “works” according to the osmosis principle: the vapors that enter the inner part of the membrane settle on it and pass out due to active diffusion. The outerwear sewn from it has many advantages: the jacket will not require extra-gentle care from you and will live for a long time. It is also worth noting the wide temperature range at which it can be operated. It is not surprising, therefore, that products made from this fabric are notable for their high price. However, they also have several drawbacks: for example, the vapor accumulating inside creates a wetting effect.
Pore membranes
Jackets made of membrane tissue with pores function as follows: moisture deposited on the membranes from the outside cannot pass inside due to the small size of the pores, and sweat released from the inside of the item is freely discharged to the surface. This phenomenon is explained very simply: the vapor molecules formed in the process of perspiration are a thousand times smaller than water molecules. Thus, we get waterproof and at the same time breathable products, which, you will agree, is very convenient. The disadvantages of this kind of membrane jackets are that it does not "live" for long: the pores quickly clog, and the wonderful properties of the tissue disappear. It also requires extremely careful handling: if the washing is improperly washed, the jacket begins to get wet, so it is recommended to buy special products for spraying - sprays, shampoos, etc.
Properties of combination membrane jackets
Such a fabric is covered on top with a pore membrane, which, in turn, has another coating - a non-porous polyurethane film. This allows jackets to combine all the advantages of the previous two options, avoiding their disadvantages. Of course, they are above average. However, buying this product, you can be sure that it will last you as long as possible.
Fabric texture
Now about the invoice. Premium items are usually labeled “Rip Stop”. This is not the name of the manufacturer, but a way of weaving fabric. If you look at it through a magnifying glass, you will see that thick and thin threads are intertwined in the likeness of a mesh and create a strong, but lightweight material. Another type of weaving is Twill. The material in this case is very smooth and pleasant to the touch. It is often used to make snowboard clothes. The dpm membrane jacket is a great example.
Stitches
Lastly, a few tips for seams. Ideally, they should be glued to prevent the slightest possibility of penetration under clothing. Even jackets made of three-layer fabric are completely glued with a special tape. When buying, look for the inscription “all seams are sealed” - it means that all the seams are indeed processed.
