Why is a student characterization compiled?
An individual approach to the education and upbringing of the younger generation involves the study of the typological features of a particular child and the creation of conditions for his development in which this process would be more effective. In the practice of the educational system, such a way of fixing the individual traits of the child as the characteristic of the student is created.
This document allows the teacher himself to summarize the knowledge about the growing person, to track the dynamics of his development, as well as to other people who will work with the child in the future, to get a ready-made set of knowledge about him. A well-composed description helps the person reading it to form an idea of āāwhat is happening, a portrait of the child and, on this basis, prioritize work with him. Therefore, the characterization of the student as one of the main documents is often required in such cases:
- when transferred to another educational institution;
- to continue studies at the next stage of education;
- at the request of social services;
- to work with a child law enforcement;
- when passing the commission in the military enlistment office;
- to organize assistance to the child, for example, in meetings of the PMPK.
Characterization Plan
Researchers in the field of psychology and pedagogy analyzed the characteristics that are compiled in educational institutions. It was revealed that such a document had a different approach to the study of the personality of the child. So, teachers focused on the influence of the pedagogical system on the student, on his behavior in school. And psychologists - on the individual typological differences of the child. For example, for the teacher, the manifestations of discipline and diligence in the educational process are important, for the psychologist - the motives of the child's educational activity . Both approaches did not adequately describe the personality of the student in the specific conditions of the educational system. Therefore, it was concluded that the characteristics of the student should be built according to a specific plan (algorithm) and include such necessary data:
- general information about the child (what is the name, age where he lives, the period of study, family characteristics) ;
- educational activities;
- behavior;
- social work;
- communication
- individual personality traits;
- family atmosphere and upbringing.
These items were included in the chart of student characteristics, which is filled in by the teacher throughout the childās education. It not only gives a complete picture of the personality of the student, but also helps to further draw up an objective description.
Student Activities
A childās activities in an educational institution include several types that should be described in such a document. It:
- educational activities (academic performance, interest, love of reading, academic achievement);
- social activity (severity, initiative, organizational inclinations, the authority of the childās opinion, attitude to the role of the follower, desire to perform socially important work);
- communicative activity, communication (popularity in the team, the presence of comrades, sociability, ability to speak in front of an audience, openness, responsiveness, orientation to the opinions of others, relations with teachers).
The characteristic of the studentās activity shows how adapted the child is to the educational environment. How he learns public experience, knows how to make independent decisions and draw up an action plan.
Psychological and pedagogical characteristics of the student. What does she include?
The designated map-scheme includes, in fact, the psychological and pedagogical parts. These include the following data:
- features of the childās behavior (discipline, obstinacy, determination, conflict, degree of aggressiveness, physical activity, degree of assimilation of pedagogical influence or upbringing);
- individual psychological characteristics (self-esteem, level of anxiety, poise, desire for success or ambition, what feelings arouse among others);
- family influence (emotional atmosphere in the family, closeness and confidentiality of relations, degree of control and interest of parents in the life of the child, student independence, degree of cooperation between parents and teachers).
The psychological and pedagogical characteristics of the student may also include information on the childās propensity for deviant behavior. In this case, it is necessary to indicate which specific examples indicate this.
