Land tenure
When addressing agriculture, perhaps many are interested in the meaning of the word "latifundist". It happened back in ancient Rome. At that time, people owned farms, vast estates called latifundia. On land, as a rule, they were engaged in agriculture. Most often, people grew cereals, produced olive oil and opened wineries.
In the past, such plots of land were concentrated in Egypt, Greece, Sicily, and Spain. Today, the latifundist is a person doing business in agriculture. In fact, nothing has changed. The lands are still used to grow different crops, and people get money for it that you can live on.
Latifundia today
It would seem that the days of Ancient Rome survived themselves, but some moments still remained unchanged. Perhaps, before, no one knew who a latifundist is. This name appeared a little later, but is widely used today, especially in Latin America. In the 21st century, latifundia can be found in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Argentina and other parts. One way or another, wherever the land is located, the landowner is the very person who owns them and specializes in export fields of agriculture.
Features of latifundia in the past and now
Once upon a time, in the time of Ancient Rome, small landowners, offended by fate and devastated by wars, completely "drowned" in their debts, and the only way to survive was to transfer land for use by the wealthy landowners. They, in turn, expanded their possessions, and poor people were content with what they could. It was in this way that the landowners gradually increased their holdings several times and as a result received vast areas of land. Later they began to call them latifundia.
After some time, a person engaged in agriculture in these territories was given the name latifundist - it was the protector of the land. It is worth noting that earlier plots were cultivated by slaves, which in our time is completely excluded.
