As early as the middle of the last century, a clinic was created in which workers who worked in highly hazardous industries were treated. History of creation
In connection with the aggravation of the foreign policy situation in the USSR, various branches of the defense industry, including the nuclear sphere, began to develop in the country. All this required not only compliance with special safety rules in production, but also prevention, treatment of possible occupational diseases.
For this purpose, as early as 1947, the Third Main Directorate was created under the Ministry of Health, which is currently renamed the Federal Medical and Biological Agency. It attracted the best specialists of that time. At the initiative of the Deputy Minister of Health Burnazyan, in 1948 a closed clinic with 200 places was created, in which they treated people employed in the described specialized industries. In addition to the hospital, a radiation laboratory was created, which became the basis for the creation of the Institute of Biophysics. Over time, it became the largest world center in which radiation biology and medicine are involved.
