Adam's apple or Adam's apple is the anatomical part of the larynx of any person, but a strong protrusion is more often observed in a strong half of humanity. It is formed due to the puberty of a man, and biologists classify it as a secondary sexual attribute. Adder in men is of various sizes: in some it is very large and immediately striking, in others it is less noticeable. Even in women, the Adam's apple may be slightly protruding. The main objective of the Adam's apple is to protect the larynx from injury.
Adam's apple and its anatomy
Adam's apple has an official international name in Latin - "Prominentia Laryngea". Adder in men and women consists of cartilage, which is located around the larynx. As they grow older, the larynx increases in size, and therefore the cartilage also grows, creating a slight bulge. After some time, the Adam's apple becomes quite hard: in young men, the Adam's apple is soft and flexible, while in adult men it becomes more and more like bone. In some cases, Adam's apple grows to large sizes, which is why many find it aesthetically unattractive. Many even go on an operation to reduce the size of an Adam's apple. Such surgery is called chondrolaryngoplasty.
Adam's apple and Adam's apple in men. Where did these names come from?
There are no historical facts about this. However, there are two suggestions for the appearance of the name
thyroid cartilage in men.
Based on the opinion that the Adam's apple in men looks like a piece of some solid food is stuck in the throat, some believe that it appeared in a strong half of humanity because of Adam, who tasted the forbidden fruit (apple) from the tree of wisdom. An apple stuck in his throat, where a lump formed. Hence the expression "Adam's apple."
The second assumption says that the word “Adam's apple” is a translation from the Turkic languages of the words “firm, rigid”. For example, in Uzbek, the word sounds like “Qattiq”.
Why is there Adam's apple for men and women? How to find him?
The growth of this anatomical formation is associated with changes in voice. So, in an adult man the voice is deeper and bassist, and sometimes even very rude.
At a time when the Adam's apple in men begins to develop, changes in their voice are often observed. This is because the
vocal cords also take on new dimensions. In men with a large Adam's apple, you can even observe its movement up and down while talking or swallowing food.
Do women have Adam's apple? In general, it is present in absolutely all people, even if it is not visible. You may find an Adam's apple in your throat. To do this, start to make some kind of humming sound and try to find the place in the throat where the vibration is felt most. So you will find the larynx, and therefore the Adam's apple itself, since it is located in front of it.
If you are still too young, then, most likely, your Adam's apple has a soft or even spongy structure. In this case, you can try to quickly change the tonality and timbre of the voice - this will make the larynx create additional movements.
