Now fishing attracts the opportunity to join the nature, take a break from the bustle of the city and satisfy the hunting instinct without any special expenses.
For most, fishing is a way to relax or make money. For some, this is just a waste of time. But few people know that “silent hunting” can become a lifestyle and a sport.
What is sports spin fishing?
Spinning fishing is a sport that is considered the most exciting type of fishing. Its peculiarities are that athletes predominantly catch predatory fish for fishing rods, using different types of artificial bait as bait.
Here, prey is a real trophy. The most valuable exhibit in the collection of fishermen-athletes is a deep predator - catfish. You need to have remarkable abilities, knowledge, dexterity and physical preparation in order to catch and pull a multi-kilogram fish out of the water, therefore, the participants of the competition train for a long time and hard before participating in sports fishing.
Spinning fishing is divided into several types:
- fishing standing on the shore;
- fishing while on a boat;
- fishing in winter and summer;
- extreme fishing in bad weather;
- calm fishing on a clear sunny day.

The subject of our discussion today will be the biography of Shanin, who is one of the most successful athletes in such a discipline as spin fishing. He repeatedly won prizes for championships in Russia both in the team game and in the personal fight. Alexey is not only engaged in “silent hunting”, but also has a blog where he reveals the secrets of fishing. There are many videos with tips and colorful descriptions for the fishermen he authored.
Alexey Shanin (35 years old) - the most titled spinning player in the world, a three-time champion born in the 80s of the last century in the city of Krasnodar, first took part in competitions when he turned 22. He forever remembered the spring of 2002, then in the Krasnodar Territory competition between fishermen of the Western and Prikubansky districts, this championship became for him a starting point in the world of sports fishing spinning.
In his next competitions, the then-unknown fisherman met Shushvalov Gennady and Artem Makartichan. Thanks to this meeting, he became friends with them and became part of their team, which won more than once in all-Russian and other competitions. It was the championship "Old Pike 2002" of the Krasnodar Territory, held near the city of Temryuk. Having reached the town, Alexey Shanin (twitching, by the way, his favorite fishing style) walked another 11 kilometers to the Temryuchanka base.
In “Old Pike 2002”, where 102 fishermen participated, Shanin was in seventh place, this was an achievement for a man who participated in such championships for the second time in his life.
The third in total and the first championship, in which Alexey took part, being in a team with Artem Makartichan, also took place in the hometown of a spinning player and was called "Kuban Spring 2002". Due to the fact that Alexey Shanin spent most of the time allotted for the competition helping a participant with an overturned boat, and adverse weather conditions caused the championship to end prematurely, the team could not win. However, Makartichan took second place, catching 18 kilograms of fish.
In the summer of the same year, Shushvalov, Shanin and Makartichan and another team of Krasnodar went to the competition "Moscow Dawns 2002. Opening of the season." Having arrived at the Ozerninskoye reservoir for their money in the Moscow Region, the team realized that they would have to compete in completely new conditions, and Alexey Shanin also appreciated the dissimilarity of the reservoir with the Krasnodar reservoirs. Fishing promised to be interesting, since this pond did not indulge fishermen with shallow water, on the contrary, in some places from the surface to the bottom of the river was 20 meters. There was no time for training before the competition to prevent athletes from exploring the area prematurely.
Krasnodar left their usual strategy unchanged and engaged in "silent hunting" in the shallow parts of the reservoir. This decision turned out to be winning and brought the team the second place in the first stage, since the main part sailed to the shore, where at that time there was more small production. Leaving Muscovites far behind, the team of Alexei Shanin, Genadiy Shushvalov and Artem Makartichan became the first. What was the starting point of the path to the world of big sport.
In 2002, there were several more championships where the Shanin team took part, but the guys did not take prizes in any of them.
2003 year
The following year (2003), Shanina was waiting for a series of victories in personal competitions.
- He became the second in the championship of the Western and Prikubansky okrug and in the open competition "Kuban Spring 2003".
- Championship, held in Krasnodar "Old Pike 2003", brought victory to the spinning player.
- At the competition KKOOiR "Cup A.E. Ryabtseva 2003" he won the third position.
- At the Russian championship in fishing with spinning, he got the ninth place.
2004 year
In 2004, Alexey Shanin won the competition, where members of the national team were selected for the 2004 World Cup. The venue was the Teberda reservoir in Karachay-Cherkessia. Thanks to this victory, the spinning player took part in the world champion in Italy. Although he was part of the national team and took the place of a substitute, already in the second round he replaced Vladimir Gabelev and won the first place, which raised the Russian spinning team from sixth position in the table and brought them a silver medal. There is also a series of competitions in which Alexey Shanin took part in 2004:
- Fishing, which brought the second place to the athlete - the championship of the Western and Kuban district of Krasnodar.
- In the competition "Old Pike 2004" and "Kuban Spring 2004" he won.
2005 year
In 2005, the team of Shanin Alexey became the first in such championships as the Ryabtsev Cup 2005, the Russian Championship 2005, the Kuznetsov Cup 2005, and the Kuban Spring 2005.
Shanin Alexey himself this year received the following places:
- "Saratov RSL, Kuznetsov Cup 2005", ZiPO Krasnodar - 1.
- He took the third position at the 2005 Russian Championship.
In this significant year, Shanin proved to Europe that Russia is also not among the "timid ten" and became the first Russian to receive the title of world champion in spinning (in Portugal).
2007 year
In 2007, athletes were preparing for the World Cup, held in Slovakia. Aleksey Shanin passed the qualification tests without difficulty, the Russian national team also included Muscovite Andrei Pietertsov, fellow countryman and friend Shanin, Krasnodar Makartichan Artem, Petersburgers Alexander Vorobyov and Maxim Balachevtsev, Andrey Chernov, coach, Saratovets.
The championship was held on a mountain river, in which trout was literally teeming. At this championship, the hero of our article set a world record, which, by the way, no one has yet been able to beat, caught 89 fish in 3 hours of fishing.
On the first day, the whole team proved to be excellent and became the first. The national team did not fail in the next round, which she also won. Alexei Shanin and Maxim Balachevtsev competed for the right to receive gold in a personal fight, as a result, with the result of 108 fish caught, Alexei became the gold medalist.
In the fall in Saratov on the Volga River the world championship for spinning from a boat was first held. According to the rules, a pair of spinning players and a judge is placed in all the boats, whose task is to monitor the weight and size of the caught fish, and then release it back to the water area. For each team, 2 boats were allocated, that is, in the main composition there should have been only four athletes and two in stock.
The team included: Muscovite Andrei Silevanov, who paired up with Krasnodar Alexey Shanin; Muscovite Andrei Pitersov, remaining in reserve; Saratovets Sergey Kozhevnikov, who also took a place in the reserve; Krasnodar Posokhov Vladimir paired with Muscovite Maxim Dydykin.
In the first round, Russia immediately took a leadership position, in connection with which Andrei Chernov (head coach of the national team) was not going to change the main staff. However, in connection with the broken moral condition, Selivanov asked to replace him, and Pitersov stepped instead of him in a pair with Shanin. The guys who caught pike in the first stage had to switch to perch, losing their lag to the lagging teams. Despite this, the Shanin-Petersov-Selivanov crew took first place, catching 5 kg of perches in the second round. This brought the gold of the Russian team.
Then Alexey Shanin participates mainly in the world championships in spinning fishing from boats.
2008 year
In 2008, the Russian team in the same composition as in 2007 participated in the World Championship in spinning from boats in Bulgaria, where it caught rainbow trout. But due to the fact that the guys have not yet revealed the secrets of fishing for this fish, Russia has not won a prize in this competition.
The consolation for Alexei was that his Krasnodar team (he, Shushvalov, Makartichan) was the first to become the champion of Russia twice, having received gold in the championship.
year 2009
In 2009, the Russian team again lost ground, taking only seventh place at the World Championships in Andorra. 2010 year
In 2010, the world championship was held in Croatia on the banks of the Krka River. In the first round, the Russian team took fourth place, but in the second round Shanin took first place, thereby tearing silver for Russia.

In 2012, the world competition was held in Poland. In the first round, our team shared the second and third places with Portugal, but already in the second round, Alexei Shanin took second place, Konstantin Karemulen - thirteenth, Artem Mishin - fifth, Alexander Vorobyov - the first thing that allowed the Russian team to pick up gold.
2013-2014
In 2013, the championship was held in the Czech Republic in the city of Ivančice on the Jihlava River. The Russian team became a bronze medalist.
In 2014, the championship was held in France, and the Russian team again received bronze.
2015 year
In 2015, the championship was held in Estonia on Lake Viljandi. Shanin again became the world champion in the individual competition, but the team took only eighth place.
