Biography of Mark Kurtser
Mark Arkadievich was born in Moscow on June 30, 1957. From childhood, he dreamed of a doctor’s career: after graduating from school in 1974, he continued his studies at the medical institute of the 2nd MOLGMI named after Pirogov. After 6 years of study, he entered the residency specializing in Gynecology and Obstetrics.
From 1982 to 1994, he taught at his native medical institute, going from a simple assistant to a respected assistant professor of the department of gynecology. Mark Kurtser has published a large number of works on the problems of prenatal diagnosis. After defending his dissertation, he was awarded the degree of candidate of medical sciences.
Medical activity
Working in a state medical institution, Mark Arkadevich met with one of the best obstetrician-gynecologists in Russia, Professor Galina Savelyeva. She nurtured the idea of organizing an exemplary maternity hospital in which the best achievements of medicine were introduced, and expectant mothers received counseling throughout the pregnancy.
In 1994, a maternity hospital on Sevastopol Avenue was opened, Mark Kurtser becomes the head physician of the Center for the Reproduction of Central Public Health and Social Research. He held this position until the fall of 2012, combining it with other activities. A special feature of the institution was the special care for all women in labor, unfortunately, not typical for state institutions. He put up shares in a company that oversees the activities of the Mother and Child centers on the London Stock Exchange. By this time, the network consisted of 12 different private health facilities. Initially, analysts were skeptical about the idea, considering it a risky one, because none of the domestic private medical firms decided on such a step. Kurtser himself, on the contrary, was more than confident in success, he had previously held a series of negotiations with potential partners.
Stocks "Mother and Child" turned out to be very interesting to investors, especially foreign ones. After an IPO on the London Stock Exchange, Mark Arkadyevich’s business was valued at a record $ 900+ million. About 30% of the shares were sold in excess of $ 300 million.
