Hockey player Kvartalnov Dmitry: playing and coaching career

Dmitry Kvartalnov is a famous Soviet and Russian hockey player, a player in domestic and foreign clubs. After completing his sports career, he became a famous coach.

Gaming career

Kvartalnov Dmitry first appeared on the ice as a professional player in his native Sunday “Chemist”. The debut took place in the 1982-83 season, but for another four years the young hockey player could not gain a foothold in the club.

Since 1986, Dmitry Kvartalnov is a hockey player who plays in the main team of “Chemist”. In the 86/87 season, he spent 40 matches in which he scored 11 goals and assisted teammates 6 times.

The first award came to Kvartalnov in 1989. His “Chemist” won silver medals in the USSR Championship, and the striker managed to score 32 (20 + 12) points. A year later, Kvartalnov Dmitry not only becomes the bronze medalist of the championship of the Soviet Union, but also receives the title of top scorer of the tournament. In 46 games, he scored 25 times at the opponents' goal and gave 29 assists.

Having played another season for “Chemist”, the Quarterly sets off to look for hockey happiness overseas. Since he did not get to the NHL draft, Dmitry signs a contract with the San Diego Gulls IHL club. This season, the Russian hockey player had a wonderful time: having scored 118 (60 + 58) points in 77 matches, Kvartalnov became the best newcomer, scorer and player of the league.

Thanks to such indicators in the next season, Dmitry will make his debut in the NHL club “Boston Bruins”. For two seasons, the Quarterly held 112 games in the most prestigious league in the world, in which he scored 42 goals and gave 49 exact passes.

In 1994, the Russian hockey player returned to Europe, where he played 3 seasons under the leadership of the legendary Alexander Yakushev for the Ambri-Piot club from Switzerland. Then Dmitry Kvartalnov signed a three-year contract with the Austrian Klagenfurt team.

In 1999, the Russian striker is part of the German “Adler”, and six months later - “Jokerita” from Finland.

In the 2000/01 season, the long-awaited return for Kvartalnov to his homeland took place for many Russian fans. He signed a contract with Kazan “AK Bars”, with which in the next draw of the championship he became the silver medalist of the Super League of Russia. Two seasons later, he adds the bronze medal of this tournament to his collection of awards.

In 2004, Kvartalnov Dmitry moved to Cherepovets Severstal, for which he played an incomplete season. After that, there was a two-year period of the attacker's stay in Wings of the Soviets. In the 2006/07 season, Kvartalnov returned to Severstal, and at the end of the championship he decided to end his playing career.

National team games

For the first time in the USSR national team, the Kvartalnov got to the international tournament in 1989. It was the World Cup in Sweden, from which the Soviet Union team brought gold medals.

Two years later, the striker again takes part in the World Cup in Finland. This time his collection is replenished with a bronze award.

Kvartalnov Dmitry in 1996, the third time went to the world championship in the Russian team. But, unfortunately, this time the medal could not be won.

Coaching path

Quarterly Dmitry

Kvartalnov’s coaching career began in the summer of 2009, when he worked as a Severstal coach. On December 7, he was appointed chief coach of the Cherepovets team. For three seasons, “Severstal” under his leadership once managed to reach the playoffs.

In April 2012, Dmitry Kvartalnov became the coach of “Siberia”. He worked in Novosibirsk for two seasons, both times his team went into the playoffs. But in 2014, Kvartalnov quit for family reasons and returned to Moscow.

And 5 days later the true reason for the dismissal is revealed - Kvartalnov signed a contract with the capital's “army men”. CSKA under the new coach won the Continent Cup twice in a row, and also played in the final of the Gagarin Cup.
