What associations do security officials hear when they hear the T-5000 sniper rifle? Obviously respectful, because a
sniper rifle is deservedly considered the “queen” among the rest of small arms. ” And the new model from "Orsis" is a clear success of Russian gunsmiths, who brought domestic sniper weapons to the level of the most advanced foreign developments.
It has universal tactical capabilities that allow for combat operations at any time of the day, in any weather. A sniper armed with it is capable of immediately embarking on combat missions. This balanced weapon is capable of guaranteed to hit the enemy at a distance of one and a half kilometers without prior technical training and shooting.
Army need for a new sniper rifle
Recall the story. The T 5000 replaced the SVD rifle. The Dragunov rifle was developed in the 60s under a cartridge of 7.62 mm by 54 mm caliber. It is limited in range - to an average distance. Sighting range - 400 m - allowed it to be effectively used in combat operations of the XX century.
However, in the 21st century, the concept of sniping has changed. The range of 1 km became relevant. Based on physics, in order to increase it, accordingly, it is necessary to increase the caliber. However, in practice, this step with respect to the Dragunov rifle was not very promising.
Firstly, the SVDK modification, “sharpened” for a 9 mm cartridge, added weight, which caused the snipers to complain of fatigue from firing from unstable states. However, the main drawback was "hidden" in the cartridge itself, developed by Wilhelm Brenekke at the beginning of the XX century. The work of the German gunsmith had proportions not optimal for long-range shooting: the relative large mass of the bullet with a relatively small cartridge case. Accordingly, the energy of the powder gases turned out to be insufficient for targeted firing of more than 400 m.
Russian designers became aware of the futility of further modernization of SVD. World sniper rifles (German DSR - 1, American M-110, Israeli M-89 SR, English L-96) have already crossed the sniper line of 1 km. This temporary tactical advantage should be eliminated.
Creating a base enterprise
For tactical support of operations, an innovative rifle was required that corresponded to the class of the best foreign models. The group of companies Promtekhnologii invested in the creation of the Orsis enterprise, whose mission was to design the Russian T 5000 sniper rifle. The Orsis enterprise (“Weapon Systems”) implemented a full production cycle: from manufacturing all parts to assembling the rifle itself.
By the end of 2011, manufacturers had fulfilled the super task - to reach the level of the best foreign developments. According to Alexander Kostin, head of public relations at Promtechnologii Group of Companies, no more than five companies in the world currently demonstrate this level.
Trunk
One of the factors of the technological advantages of Orsis was the use of innovative high-class stainless steel alloys. However, this was not enough. After all, the best sniper rifles in the world owe much to their accuracy characteristics of trimming the barrel.
A short and stressful path was chosen: immediately go to the industrial cutting of the barrel. Russian gunsmiths moved from their turning to single-pass trellis planing with a CNC machine. Such machines were created with the help of German and Swiss specialists and components. The developers did not reinvent the wheel. The starting point for creating rifled Russian machines was their British counterparts for single-pass cutting. Their “brain and heart” has become a unique CNC from Promtekhnologii. As a result, a new technology was born in which the deviation from the basic accuracy does not exceed two microns.
The barrel of the new sniper weapon is equipped with longitudinal lobes, providing additional rigidity and cooling. An important detail of the created weapon is the Orsys three-chamber muzzle brake compensator. When sniping over long distances, the muzzle brake detaches, while increasing the firing range.
Bolt group. Two rifle options
The rifle t 5000 belongs to the class of "tactical rifles." But modern tactics, as already mentioned, involves sniping both at an average distance (400-500 m) and at a long distance (about 1 km).
In connection with the foregoing, the designers proposed two basic options. At the first (mid-range) standard shutter group was used, designed for a standard 7.62 mm cartridge. The second option (long-range) is characterized by a longer bolt group serving the 8.58 mm Magnum cartridge.
The increase in the aiming range is achieved by increasing the caliber of the cartridge to a value of 8.58 mm by 69 mm.
Another constructive achievement was that the Russian T 5000 sniper rifles have increased operational safety. One of the components of its achievement is a 30% margin of safety of the bolt group with respect to pressure during testing. By means of heat treatment (hardening) the strength of the components of the bolt group made of stainless steel is increased. Special electroerosive processing allowed to give them high-precision spatial geometric dimensions.
Trigger mechanism
Structurally, the trigger mechanism of the T 5000 is made of several materials. Stainless steel reinforced by heat treatment is used for the manufacture of the supporting body. Internal parts are made of steel grade 40 x 13 (from which scalpels are made). The caps are made of titanium alloy. The mechanism is insulated, simple, reliable, easy to repair.
The free-wheeling and effort for the trigger of the Hunter system makes 1–1.5 kg; and for Varmint - 0.5-0.9 kg.
Convenience for the shooter
The Orsys T-5000 rifle, as experts admit, turned out to be convenient for a sniper. The hand of the shooter without tension is located on the pistol-type handle, the adjustable butt easily adjusts to its anthropometry. When translating weapons in the stowed state, the butt is removed to the side and fixed using a special magnetic lock. The Picattini bar allows the use of
optical sights (they will be discussed below).
However, what is the main convenience of the T-5000 for a sniper? In combat properties that allow you to effectively perform complex combat missions. Her mechanics are surprisingly verified and, accordingly, remarkable accuracy characteristics are achieved. Glass bedding technology compensates for the significant impact of torque from the passage of a bullet, the force acting on the screws that secure the barrel to the bed, the recoil force. Thanks to a special epoxy bed for the bolt group (which, in fact, is called “glass bedding”), its reliable fit to the bed is ensured and, as a result, “the sight does not go astray” over time.
The rifle is ergonomic, provides an insignificant level of recoil and, importantly, besides after the shot, the sight remains on the target. The latter is important to see the result of the shooting, because the rate of fire (20 rounds per minute) allows you to produce an additional shot to kill.
Design and performance characteristics
The structural base for the creation of the T 5000 rifle is classified as a multi-bolt bolt group equipped with two combat front stops. It is equipped with a longitudinally-sliding rotary bolt, a barrel and a trigger mechanism made of stainless steel. The metal parts of the weapon are made as matte, the coating is wear-resistant, burnished (Cerakote), developed by NIK-Industries.
Aluminum alloy serves as a material for the manufacture of the T-5000 lodge. The high-precision sniper rifle is equipped with a 12 by 56 series sight in a steel case with a multi-layer coating of lenses and water protection. Its specs: 12x magnification and 56mm lens diameter.
For night sniping, the NSV-80 sight is additionally installed.
In general, this sniper rifle, manufactured in two versions, has the following tactical and technical characteristics (see table 1).

Rifle tests
What did the official presentation of the newly created T 5000 show? A high-precision sniper rifle for the first time officially demonstrated its combat properties in the fall of 2011 at the VIII International Exhibition of Arms in Nizhny Tagil. The demonstration was performed by Dmitry Semizorov, a recognized specialist in sniper shooting in Russia and in the world. The targets were located at the lines of 540, 300 and 100 meters.
Test firing results were more than successful. The center of fire strictly coincided with the center of the target. This was facilitated by the design features introduced by the specialists of Promtekhnologii: an innovative cartridge positioning system in the trigger mechanism and deliberate-accurate balancing of the rifle, which resulted in recoil occurring strictly horizontally, without taking the sight off target. The departure of the bullet from the sighting line at a distance of 100 m, just like the German DSR-1 rifle, was only a few millimeters. It is not surprising that the Orsys T 5000, so spectacularly presented, gathered positive reviews, while Russian anti-terrorist and special power units immediately wished to adopt it.
Output
In June 2012, at the World Sniper Shooting Championships in Hungary, the first place went to the Russian Alpha, playing with the Orsys T 5000 domestic sniper rifles. From that year on, these weapons began to enter the arsenal of anti-terrorist and special power units. In addition, it is made for sale.
Does he have any flaws? For a long time we tried to find them on the Internet. Honestly, it didn’t work out. Only two wishes to designers were striking. First: refine the cutoff between the "current" cartridge, i.e. filed in the chamber, and following him. Second (it is subjective): increase the capacity of the store.
