The boxer possessed talent, but he was far from the star of world boxing. Under the leadership of Zimin, in 4 years he won a large number of prestigious competitions.

Departure to Japan and continued coaching career

In 1990, perestroika began; for sports in our country, not the best of times came. Many coaches went abroad at that time, some even stayed in other countries forever.

Zimin Alexander Vasilievich in such a difficult time for sports went to Japan, where he had all the conditions for successful work. Zimin during his stay in this country worked with the first Soviet professional boxers - Vyacheslav Yanovsky and Vyacheslav Yakovlev.

Zimin faced a difficult task: it is quite difficult to rebuild boxers from amateur boxing to professional boxing. In amateur boxing there are only 3 rounds, while in professional boxing there are 12. In addition, collective training is completely unsuitable for developing skills, each athlete needs to be trained individually. While working in Japan, the illustrious trainer himself studied. He carefully watched how the Japanese relate to martial arts. They are insanely disciplined, work hard and hard, constantly improving their skills. Alexander Vasilyevich has always said that athletes from Russia have great talent, but Russian athletes do not have strict discipline. The Japanese keep the gym clean. After each workout, they are carefully cleaned. Upon returning home, Alexander Vasilievich tried to share his experience with our coaches and athletes.

Zimin in every possible way defended this popular boxer during the doping scandal. He argued that Povetkin wins only thanks to his natural talent and hard work. Its coaching staff employs professional doctors, managers and trainers. Zimin did not understand why Alexander should use dope if he is checked every month. Most likely, the reason for the provocation is that standing American boxers are afraid to lose their belts, as Povetkin is a technical boxer who moves a lot in the ring.

Alexander Vasilyevich once specially flew to Berlin to prepare Povetkin for battle. The famous coach then lived and worked in Japan. Agent Alexander phoned him and said that the American coach was unable to come and take part in the preparation.
