Austria is a small country, its administrative division consists of nine federal states, which, in turn, consist of districts and registered cities. Here are the largest cities in Austria (the list includes the ten largest cities by area and population):
- Vienna is the capital of the country and the eponymous federal state, one of the richest and most luxurious cities in the country. Vienna is located in the eastern part of the state on the banks of the Danube.
- Graz is Austria’s second largest city. It is the center of the federal state of Styria. Graz is considered a student city, and its center is declared the property of mankind and is protected by UNESCO.
- Linz is located in Upper Austria. This is one of the most important cultural and educational capitals of the country.
- Salzburg is the capital of the eponymous federal state. It is located almost on the border with Germany in the Alpine region on the Salz River, from which the name of the city came from.
- Innsbruck is the capital of the Tyrol region. One of the typical cities combining both ordinary city life and ski resorts. Austria, the cities in which for the most part are very developed, can be proud of the fact that innsbruck managed to preserve the historical buildings, making it nonetheless modern.
- Klagenfurt is located in the southern part of the country. It is the capital of the Carinthia region. The population of Klagenfurt is only a little more than 90 thousand people.
- Villach is the second largest city in Carinthia, the seventh largest country in Austria. The cities of this region are in the Alps, there are also many lakes.
- Wels, like Linz, is located in Upper Austria. It is the second largest city in the region. Wels is a very old town located by the river Traun. A little more than 56 thousand people live in it.
- Sankt Pölten is the capital of the Lower Austria region. It is considered the oldest city in the country and is located near Vienna, between the Alps and the Danube.
- Dornbirn is also a very old city, it is the capital of Vorarlberg, of which all Austria is proud. The cities of this region are mostly small both in area and in number of inhabitants. Dornbirn, which closes the top ten largest Austrian cities, is very close to the border with neighboring states.

Despite the fact that the above settlements are the largest in area, they are not as popular as many ski resorts and baths, which are popularized by Austria.
