Roach, which is popularly called the maggie, due to its abundance in Russian reservoirs, is one of the most common fish. But, despite its large populations, the abundance of this fish, not everyone succeeds in catching it. Moreover, not every amateur knows how to catch roach.
With the onset of the thaw
After the cold recedes, there comes a period when, according to many, it is easiest to catch fish. However, spring fishing for roach is not always successful. This fish is active all year round. Winter fishing is gradually replaced by fishing with summer gear, which can be obtained immediately after the appearance of the first ravines in Russian reservoirs.
Spring fishing for roach is gradually improving as the water warms. Biting fish goes into a real zhor before spawning. Since this fish does not spawn at different ponds or rivers at the same time, fishing in the spring can take place during all three months - from March to the end of May. Just for this you need to change the place of fishing.
As a rule, in many regions spawning occurs at the beginning of May. And before that, as evidenced by the reviews, fishermen come across quite large specimens, sometimes reaching a kilogram, and sometimes even higher.
Before spawning, this fish, gathering in large schools, rushes to small rivers and streams. They are in constant migration, therefore, active biting is periodically observed in the most different parts of a particular reservoir. And even plentiful lure is not able to hold this fish for a long time at one point.
Features of fishing
Roach fishing in spring (March) is carried out at shallow depths. This circumstance is explained by the fact that production, going to the shallows, warms up after the winter and searches for fodder. At this time, bloodworms are considered the best bait.
Since the flood water in the spring is cloudy and resembles jelly in consistency, bait, as a rule, is useless. It should be given only in clean rivers. Typically, many people use a mixture of sand or coastal soil with dry complementary foods. You can also knead a little forage bloodworm with them, but it is not always relevant, and also attracts a lot of small prey.
Catching roaches in the spring in complementary foods involves an accurate dosage of flavors. For example, some fruit essences “work” well this season. Many anglers also use regular garlic, kneading it in the feed mixture.
Catchy places
Many fishermen have noticed that in spring in the river flows the roach most often clings to areas where there are large clods that have fallen off the banks, from which a "trail" of turbidity is formed. This fish chooses such places for a reason: here it guards those food organisms that water washes from the ground. In this regard, roach fishing in the spring is very productive if you use the old grandfather way to attract prey. To do this, you need to take a long pole, and picking them on the bottom, raise the dregs.
When narrowing in stagnant bodies of water, the bait should be cast a little further away from the feeding point, and then the equipment should be pulled with a fishing rod or by rotating the reel. The tidal wave feed brings to the shore, thereby attracting fish. Therefore, experienced anglers always choose a position for fishing roaches against the wind.
Tackle
In the spring, roach fishing most often takes place with a fishing rod. And if in standing water you can fish at almost one point, then during the course of fishing goes to the wiring, which requires a person to move frequently. In the spring, roach is no less effectively caught on a donkey fishing rod. Its equipment should be distinguished by increased sensitivity. The tackle for catching this fish should have a light rod with a length of four to six meters.
If roach fishing is carried out directly on the coast in spring, then the main fishing line must be tied to the apex. If it is necessary to obtain a casting range, then the fisherman will need a not very large, but always inertia-free reel. The thickness of the main fishing line should be taken with a diameter of 0.14-0.16 mm, and the diameter of the leash within 0.1-0.12 mm.
In this case, the size of the hook must be selected according to the size of the bait. Catching roach in the spring on the float has one, but important feature: it is very important to accurately load the latter so that at the slightest touch of the fish a person will immediately notice it.
Gear assembly
A magpie in March – April is well caught by pickers or feeders. It is important not to make very distant casts. Typically, the roach itself comes close enough to the shore, so you need to choose a feeder or sinker with the lightest possible weight.
There is nothing complicated in collecting a feeder type of gear. Just from the cover, the links of the forms get out and the rod is assembled. At the same time, it is necessary to be careful during installation, monitoring the alignment of the rings all the time. When the feeder rod is assembled, it must be equipped with an inertia-free reel, and then thread the line or cord through the rings.
Fishing float
There are four types of fishing rods. Firstly, a flywheel with a dull snap, the fishing line of which is attached to the tip of the rod. This float equipment can be thrown about two of its lengths. The second type is a Bologna fishing rod with a reel and rings. It also allows you to make long casts, and over long distances than with the flywheel option. The other two types of float - match and plug - are used less often. In the first case, the rod is equipped with an inertia-free reel. In the spring, roach fishing with this equipment takes place with a sliding float. The plug-in variety is distinguished by a long nine-meter rod, many knees and the presence of a special stand.
For amateur fishing, the first two varieties of fishing on a float are best suited: with a flywheel and a lap-dog. Their advantage is that they do not require additional, sometimes complex devices, in addition, they are mobile in transportation. But the most important thing: to catch a roach, which is often located in coastal waters, with such gear on a float is very easy.
Bait
Surprisingly, in order to accurately say what it is better to catch roach in this pond, you must first catch it. After cutting the fish, you need to study the contents of its stomach, and depending on what you see, choose a bait. The most popular bait are bunches of red worms, roach bite well on maggots too. Some anglers attach a foam ball to the bait hook , which, according to them, increases the number of bites. In early spring, roach is best caught on bloodworms. On thin hooks, several larvae must be worn at once. And with a bad bite, according to professionals, various combinations of bait, or the so-called sandwiches, help.
