One of the subtypes of the forensic medical examination is genetic, which aims to establish the fact of paternity by comparing the biological materials of the child and the alleged parent.
When is
In most cases, DNA analysis is prescribed by the judiciary. Less often, a possible father independently turns to a private clinic to obtain confirmation that he is in a family relationship with the child.
The main situations requiring examination are:
- Detection of substitution of children in the hospital.
- Definition of a true father (if there are several of those in a womanβs mind).
- Receipt or refusal of inheritance.
- If the mother is a citizen of the Russian Federation, and the father has a different nationality. In this case, a genetic examination is necessary for the family to move to the fatherβs homeland (in order to change the permanent place of residence).
- Doubts about the use of biological material of the true parent in the process of in vitro fertilization.
- The need to provide evidence of kinship to the court in order to obtain mother support after a divorce.
- Identification of the deceased if his body is severely disfigured as a result of any disaster or terrorist attack.
Biological material is taken at the request of the court in the presence of witnesses. Taking samples to obtain a result for personal use does not require outsiders to be in the laboratory.
Currently, it has become possible to establish kinship in the prenatal period after 9 weeks of fetal development.
The cost of genetic examination of paternity is quite high, its purpose should be justified.
Material, features
For a successful result, it is necessary to provide any biological material to the laboratory. The DNA molecule is found in all cells of the human body - the outcome will be the same, regardless of the type of sample.
As a rule, in medical clinics, a smear obtained from the inside of the cheek (buccal) is taken for analysis. The widespread use of this method is due to its speed and painlessness.
Non-standard samples for genetic examination are:
- Hair. They must be with the onion. Self-falling and gray hair is unsuitable for analysis. Not the best material for determining paternity, they are often used to establish motherhood.
- Toothbrush. It must be in use for at least 2 weeks.
- A cotton swab for hygiene of the ear canals, on which there are traces of sulfur.
- Textiles with blood or sperm stains.
- The trimmed ends of the nails.
- Used handkerchief for its intended purpose.
- Nipple, if it is necessary to confirm or exclude kinship with a baby.
The material must not be touched with hands; after collection, it must be placed in a new paper envelope or a special set must be purchased at the clinic in advance. Father and child can provide different samples for examination, this does not affect the final result. Any biomaterial preserves a DNA molecule for several months.
After its transfer to the laboratory, the specialist carries out the process of DNA extraction from samples using special reagents. After this, PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is launched, during which the number and size of the molecules multiply.
Since the child receives half of the chromosomes from the mother, they are initially compared with her sample. The fact of paternity is considered established if the mismatched chromosomes are identical to those contained in the biomaterial of the alleged parent.
What determines the price?
In Russia, the average cost of a genetic examination of paternity is 15 thousand rubles. Depending on several factors, it can differ significantly from this figure.
The indicators affecting the amount you have to pay are:
- The number of participants. The procedure can go through several people. If DNA analysis is carried out for a single child and one prospective parent, the cost of a genetic examination of paternity will be about 10 thousand rubles. For each additional participant, the amount is doubled.
- Type of sample. Analysis of standard biological material (buccal smear) also costs about 10 thousand rubles. Examination of other samples increases the amount by about a third.
- Speed. The duration of the study is at least 10 days. Depending on the medical institution, this period can be increased several times. If the customer wants to get the result faster, the cost of the genetic examination of paternity increases significantly.
- Price policy. Each institution sets its own cost for this service. To reduce the risk of overpayment, it is recommended to study the price lists of clinics located at the place of residence (or temporary stay) of the customer in advance.
To date, approximately 50 laboratories provide paternity services in Russia.
DNA analysis in Moscow
In the capital of Russia, the majority of medical institutions carrying out a genetic examination of paternity are concentrated. The cost in Moscow is an average of 15 thousand rubles. One of the largest centers, the City DNA Research Foundation, conducts analysis for 12 thousand rubles, and the company United Lawyers for 16.5 thousand rubles.
Thus, Moscow prices are not sky-high.
DNA analysis in St. Petersburg
In the cultural capital of Russia, many laboratories have all the necessary equipment and reagents for high-quality research.
The cost of the genetic examination of paternity in St. Petersburg varies in a fairly wide range. For example, the multidisciplinary private clinic Iriy offers an analysis for 11 thousand rubles, and the laboratory service Helix - for 20 thousand rubles. Moreover, the deadlines are the same - 14 days.
Thus, in St. Petersburg, the cost of the genetic examination of paternity in different medical institutions is significantly different.
DNA analysis in Novosibirsk
In this city, the price of the service is much lower than in St. Petersburg. The cost of a genetic examination of paternity in Novosibirsk at the Clinical Bureau of Forensic Medicine is 7 thousand rubles. Another BioPapa laboratory offers an analysis for 11 thousand rubles. The service has the highest price at the Center for Genetic Research - 17 thousand rubles.
DNA analysis in Yekaterinburg
The average price of expertise in this city differs from those presented in Novosibirsk clinics. The Center for Genetic Research conducts DNA analysis for 12-19 thousand rubles, depending on the number of studied sections of the molecule. Specialists of the VitaMedika rehabilitation medicine center evaluate their services at 15 thousand rubles, and the Olmed clinic - at 17 thousand rubles.
Thus, the cost of a genetic examination of paternity in Yekaterinburg is even higher than in Moscow.
DNA analysis is a study that compares the biomaterial of the child and the intended parent. The average cost of a genetic examination of paternity in the Russian Federation is 15 thousand rubles.
