Anatomically, what is a buttock? This is a large soft sciatic muscle in a person with subcutaneous tissue and skin.
Step-by-step preparation for intramuscular injection
To do this, you first need to wash your hands thoroughly with soap. Prepare a syringe. Prepare a vial with a drug. Hit the top of the ampoule with your finger several times so that drops of liquid descend. Break the cap and pick up the drug with a syringe needle.
Make sure that the needle does not touch surrounding objects, which can lead to bacterial complications. Therefore, the needle must be covered with a cap.
How to make an injection in the buttock for an adult?
To begin with, a person should be placed on his stomach in a horizontal position or on his side to relax the muscles. Then, conditionally, the buttock needs to be divided into four squares: two upper and two lower. The needle should be inserted directly into the upper upper square of the muscle in order to protect the patient from an injured nerve or blood vessel.
We put on gloves and treat the buttock with an antiseptic substance or alcohol.
Before administering the medicine, air must be released from the syringe. To do this, raise the needle up and push on the piston until fluid appears on the tip. The syringe is ready for injection.
The needle is directed to the skin at a right angle - 90 degrees. Sharply enter 3/4 of the length of the needle into the muscle. The drug substance should be injected slowly into the tissue - this will prevent undesirable complications for the patient, such as swelling and the formation of seals.
After sharply remove the needle. We take a cotton swab moistened with alcohol and press it, massaging the injection site a little in circular motions - this contributes to the rapid and uniform distribution of the drug across the tissues.
Precautionary measures
If the course of treatment consists of several injections, the buttocks should be alternated to reduce pain and muscle damage.
