Derek Roy: career of a famous Canadian hockey player

Derek Roy is a notorious person in the field of sports and, in particular, hockey. He was born in Canada (Ontario) in 1983, May 4. And at the moment he defends the colors of the Omsk โ€œVanguardโ€, where he moved this year.

early years

Derek Roy started at the Kitchen Rangers. He came in the 1999/2000 season. He stayed there until 2003. In the first season, the Canadian proved to be excellent: he managed to score 87 points. Thanks to this, he received the title of OHL Rookie of the Year.

In his second season, Roy also showed excellent results: 81 points and 42 goals scored! The following year, 2001, he was selected at the NHL Draft by representatives of the Buffalo Sabers Club. He played for him in the fall of 2002, but only in pre-season meetings. Then, despite the fact that the Canadian showed excellent results, he was returned to his native Rangers. And he helped the team win the Memorial Cup in 2003.

Then the young man turned 18, and he became part of the Buffalo Sabers farm club. For the first season, spent in the NHL, he managed to score 19 points (given that he went to the ice 49 times).

Further success

Having played the season for the Buffalo, Derek Roy moved to the Rochester Americans. Not because he wanted it that way. Just after going through the training camp, it turned out that the young central striker was not ready to defend the Sabers colors. However, in Rochester he showed excellent success, and for 8 games earned 20 points. Representatives of the Buffalo Sabers invited him again. And the Canadian ended the season with two hat-tricks. First in my life, by the way.

The following season, Derek Roy, whose photo is provided above, sent the fastest puck into the Ottawa goal. Only 9 seconds have passed since the starting whistle! It was a real event for him and the team. Not surprisingly, in the offseason, Buffalo offered the hockey player a 6-year contract and $ 24 million. And Derek justified himself: in the very first season after the conclusion of the contract, he became the team's top scorer, earning 81 points. Of these, 49 were accrued for assists, and 32 - for goals abandoned.

True, in 2010/11 he underwent a heavy operation on his arm, which is why he missed a lot of playing time. And in 2012, Buffalo traded it for two other players, sending a scorer to the Dallas Stars. A year later, the Texas club sent Derek to the Vancouver Canucks. Then he moved to the St. Louis Blues, where he played one season and moved to the Nashville Predators, and then to the Edmonton Oilers. Then he spent a year in the Swiss Bern. And now he is defending the honor of the Russian Vanguard, with which the contract was signed for one year.

Other facts

Derek Roy is a hockey player who is not only a club player. He also defended the colors of his national team. In 2003, for example, took part in the Youth World Championship. The Canadian team then won the โ€œsilverโ€, and Roy scored 10 points for the tournament.

Then he went to international competitions in 2008. Then Roy designed a hat-trick, sent to the gate of the Norwegian rivals. True, in the final the national team lost to Russia. And the next year, 2009, the story repeated itself.

But itโ€™s worth noting that Roy is the sponsor of a junior hockey team called Clarence Castors from his native province of Ontario.
