How to deal with heat? When you need to put injections at high temperature, and when it is not worth knocking it down? The questions are topical, especially for those families in which there are small children, and a doctor’s visit to the house for some reason is not possible.
First of all, you need to remember that knocking down adults below 38 ° is not recommended. Children may have other indicators: such heat can cause seizures in some of them. Self-medication is contraindicated for such children more than for everyone else. It is recommended for them to call a doctor right away, and even better, an ambulance.
The fact is that interferon, necessary for the fight against viral infections, begins to be produced in the body only after 38 °. Therefore, it makes no sense to inject from the temperature earlier than this value. Of course, you need to observe the strictest bed rest, drink herbal teas, vitamins to help the body fight the infection. In order to know exactly when you need to give an injection of temperature to a child, you must always consult a pediatrician.
For starters, we can recommend trying to bring down the heat with gentle means. Acetic wrap, alcohol rubdown, an enema with cold water helps a lot.
If they do not help, you can call for help heavier artillery: in pharmacies a lot of antipyretic drugs. But when aspirin, paracetamol or ibuprofen do not help, there is a need to put an injection from the temperature.
Ambulance doctors usually intramuscularly inject a lytic mixture of certain parts of diphenhydramine (papaverine) and dipyrone. This composition brings relief in 15-20 minutes. This happens because analgin in combination with diphenhydramine or papaverine has a very strong antipyretic effect, far exceeding the properties of paracetamol or aspirin.
In addition, you must remember that uncontrolled intake of aspirin by children or its incorrect dosage can lead to a terrible disease: Reye's syndrome. This is called severe damage to the brain and liver.
So, how to put an injection from the temperature?
First, determine the dosage. The dosage for children under 14 years old is determined by the pediatrician, based on the weight and age of the baby. Usually, analgin is taken at 10 mg per 1 kg of the baby's weight, papaverine at 0.1 ml, and diphenhydramine at 0.41 ml for each year of the child's life. However, it is better for children not to give injections on their own: each of the drugs or even the incorrect position of the syringe and the chosen injection site can cause irreparable harm.
For adults, 2 ml of dipyrone, 2 ml of papaverine, 1 ml of diphenhydramine are collected in one syringe. However, today, when diphenhydramine is sold exclusively by prescription, it can be replaced with suprastin.
Now we begin preparation. Before you make an injection from the temperature, you need to prepare everything you need: a disposable syringe, cotton swabs, ampoules, a nail file for opening them.
The prepared ampoules are heated to the temperature of the patient (they can simply be held in hands), wiped with alcohol.
Having opened the ampoule, the drugs are injected into the syringe in the following sequence: analgin, diphenhydramine (suprastin), papaverine.
Conditionally divide the buttock into 4 equal parts. The upper outer quadrant is treated with alcohol, the muscles are clamped with your fingers and, holding the syringe at a right angle, the lytic mixture is introduced slowly and very carefully. The injection site is again treated with alcohol and for some time, pressing, hold the swab at the injection site.
It’s easier for oneself to get an injection in the thigh. To do this, you need to sit down, stretch the muscles on the front of the thigh, guide the needle about 4 cm. The remaining techniques are the same as when injecting into the buttock.
Why do I need a lytic mixture? The fact is that with an increase in body temperature of only one degree, the load on the heart increases by 15%. This means that prolonged fever can cause irreversible harm to the heart and brain of the patient or even kill him.
If the injection knocked down the fever for a short time, it is better not to repeat it, but to find a way to get a doctor's consultation and his help.
