Cucumbers are creeper annual plants belonging to the pumpkin family. Indian origin, so they are light, moisture and heat-loving. Currently, breeders and amateurs have bred many varieties and hybrids that differ in many ways.
German cucumber is a Dutch breeding hybrid, which is in high demand among buyers. Its fruits are very tasty, have a cylindrical shape, a saturated
emerald color with a slight white coating, a dense texture without voids, large tubercles on the skin. Bitterness in them is completely absent. They can be used fresh and for canning German cucumbers.
A description of them from the point of view of the farmer or summer resident: high-yielding, early ripening, parthenocarpic (pollinators are not required), which form 5 or less 6 fruits per node. Begin to bear fruit on about the 40th day. Plants develop powerful, resistant to many diseases.
Cucumber "German" can be grown in seedling and seedling methods. In the second case, the timing of sowing depends on the heating of the soil. As a rule, the necessary soil temperature for seed germination is set by the end of May. Seeding too deep in the soil should not be, 1.5 cm is enough.
To determine the date of
sowing seeds for seedlings, approximately 25 days should be taken from the estimated time of planting in the greenhouse (open ground). Treated seeds do not need to be pickled, and it is advisable to hold unprocessed seeds for half an hour in a Fitosporin solution prepared in accordance with the instructions.
In the sowing tank, make drainage holes and half fill them with disinfected soil (purchased for seedlings or prepared independently) and spill with water. It is advisable to immediately grow each plant in a separate pot in order to less damage the roots during transplantation. To deepen the seeds of German cucumbers by 1 cm, cover with a transparent film or glass. Crops should be placed in a warm, bright room.
Germination of seeds occurs quickly, about 4 days. After a couple of days, a temperature drop to 18 0 C is required so that the seedlings do not stretch. As the plants grow, soil similar to the sowing should be added to the tank, deepening young plants with cotyledon leaves. With this technique, additional roots develop. Watering seedlings should be reasonable, water stagnation is unacceptable.
By the time of planting in the greenhouse (open ground), the beds should be prepared, well fertilized. By this time, the German cucumber will have 4 real leaves and, possibly, the first antennae. It is advisable to grow it in a vertical version: leaves and fruits will not come into contact with the soil, they will be better illuminated by sunlight, harvesting is more pleasant and easier.
Cucumber care consists of regular watering, and under the root, but so that the water does not fall on the stems. It is better to mulch the soil, since loosening is not desirable due to the surface root system of plants. Any shifts in the soil will damage the suction root hairs, which cannot be restored, and new ones take time to grow. Weeds should not be pulled out with roots, it is better to cut them periodically at soil level.
It is necessary to water it with warm water (cold water is not absorbed by the roots, moreover, plant growth is suspended). Fertilizing is required on a regular basis with both organic and mineral complex. Shaping and pinching are not required. To always have a decent harvest, plant a German cucumber. Those who have already tested this hybrid respond only positively and are not going to refuse it.
