Somewhere in the incomprehensible Universe is Pandora - a planet inhabited by human-like creatures of na'vi. The local population has outstanding physical abilities and an unusual blue tint of the skin. Na'vi are in complete unity with nature, do not strive for the benefits of civilization and live on huge beautiful trees. But the corporation for the development of resources from the Earth intervenes in the peaceful existence of amazing Aborigines, which discovered the valuable mineral anobtanium. To study life on Pandora, geneticists design special avatar bodies, which are a hybrid of man and na'vi.
“Avatar”, released in 2009, became the highest grossing film of all time the existence of cinema. Also, this high-budget and high-tech picture has gathered a huge army of fans. Critics took the film no less welcoming. Of course, the actors of the movie Avatar, combined with the colorful story revealed by James Cameron, looked more than convincing, helping the viewer to feel the unfolding drama and plunge into the plot with his head. Thought out to the smallest detail, a serious theme raised by the creators, impeccable stylistic performance - all this makes Avatar a unique film that deserves attention.
But it should be noted that with all the positive assessments, if a thorough analysis is made, it turns out that the plot is still quite predictable and has repeatedly appeared in other cinematic works. So, for example, you can notice some touches from the film “Dancing with the Wolves”, as well as “Pocahontas”. The director himself names some other sources of inspiration. There is a high probability that the script was written under the influence of the works of Ursula Le Guin and Paul Anderson. Nature, very reverently created on Pandora, sends the viewer to the animated film “Valley of Ferns,” according to Cameron himself, who impressed him very much in the early nineties.
When creating the film "Avatar", actors and roles were selected outside the framework of any status and fame. Moreover, the director tried not to increase the already huge budget and deliberately invited not-so-stellar representatives of the acting world to the main roles. The actors who got into Avatar played flawlessly and, becoming part of such a grandiose project, attracted close attention to their personalities.
Sam Worthington
An Australian actor with a charismatic and courageous appearance played the role of former Marine Jake Sally, suffering from paralysis of the legs. At first, Sam appears as a tired, overwhelmed man who wants to recover and put an end to the shackling physical imperfection. Gradually, the hero reveals himself in front of the viewer, becomes brighter, he is captured by an amazing life on Pandora, local residents who are far from the stereotypical idea of uneducated and short-sighted Aborigines, and, of course, Jake through his avatar gets physical freedom of action, which he enjoys to the full. Worthington's character plunges into a new, unknown culture, he finds himself at a crossroads, feeling that the old ideals and foundations of the worldview are fading into the background. It should be noted that Sam has become the "cornerstone" of the movie Avatar.
The actors, who embodied the rest of the images, acted as a kind of frame for the unfolding plot. In the course of the development of history, the internal battle in Jake Sally's soul develops into a war already on the real battlefield, where representatives of the human race very brutally demonstrate their values, while destroying strangers.
The main character changes his worldview, having discovered something more, he is captured by a new world with its simple, clean, but exalted organization of the life cycle. The absolute harmony that reigns among the Na'vi people occupies his heart, and Jake goes over to the side of the original potential enemy. This situation often becomes the subject of a dispute between fans and opponents of the picture, the latter call Jake a traitor and an apostate.
Zoe Saldana
It is almost impossible to imagine such a film without a love story. For the romantic component, Zoe Saldana was chosen, who played the mysterious, kind and feminine Neytiri.
The character of Neytiri strengthened and adorned the Avatar. The leading actors (Sam and Zoe) very subtly conveyed all the tragedy of the connection between them, with full awareness of the possible consequences. The alien girl is exactly the thread that connected Jake with the alien and initially hostile world of Pandora. She helped to look at the world through the prism of her attitude, which completely changed the consciousness of the infantryman once devoted to the Motherland.
Sigourney Weaver
Often the heroes, who are by no means assigned the main role, leave a bright trace in the memory of the viewer. The movie Avatar was no exception. Supporting actors, including the notorious Sigourney Weaver, amazingly fit into the plot, personifying the forces of good and evil. Weaver reincarnated as Dr. Grace Augustine, head of the Avatar science project. Understanding, gentle and responsible, Grace embodies kindness and mercy, she educates local children and disposes all of Na'vi to herself, writes books about the amazing nature of the planet, is imbued with sympathy for Jake, later trying to help him, and finally takes his position.
Despite the absolute unity of the whole tribe in an attempt to save Dr. Augustine, her life is tragically interrupted, but the heroine won the love of fans around the world. Grace began to appear even in computer games related to the movie Avatar. Actors and roles performed by them, for a long time remained in the hearts of the audience.
Stephen Lang
The antagonist and undisputed negative hero is Colonel Miles Quaritch. This character is a real "warrior", he is completely devoid of sympathy, calm and cruel. Miles also has a strong inner core, tempered by willpower, and he is certainly smart and cunning. James Cameron repeatedly repeated that Stephen became his friend, and working with him was unforgettable.
It is known that at the moment the second part of the sensational film is actively being removed, and almost all Avatar actors take part in it. Photos from the shootings come regularly, which fuels the already growing interest in this grandiose, great, but to some extent ambiguous creation of Cameron.
