Industrial enterprises of the Sverdlovsk region occupy an important place in the economy of the Ural region in particular and Russia as a whole. And this is not surprising. The rich reserves of natural resources and the availability of highly qualified personnel allow us to develop a variety of industries: from metal smelting, to the assembly of drilling machines, from the manufacture of thousands of kilometers of cables to the production of unique abrasive materials. Consider just a few of the hundreds of businesses.
JSC Uralkabel: historical background
Sverdlovsk cable factory was formed in the difficult days of 1941 at the facilities of equipment evacuated from Kiev and Moscow. Military units urgently needed field cables for laying communication lines. At the Verkh-Isetsky Metallurgical Plant, areas were allocated for the organization of production, and on August 29 the first kilometers of cables were sent to the front.
Revolutionary changes in the enterprise occurred in the 1970s. After modernization of the workshops, it became possible to master innovative technological processes; new polymers were actively used to insulate wires. In 1981, the specialists of the Sverdlovsk cable factory were the first in the Union to develop thermoelectrode cables with a reduced copper cross section. In 1988, the heating system for concrete products and monolithic concrete structures was awarded the VDNH medal.
Our days
In the 1990s, the company was reorganized into Uralkabel JSC, in 2006 it became part of the powerful holding UMMC. In 2011, the company merged with other core firms in LLC Cable Alliance. Today it is one of the most important enterprises in the Sverdlovsk region in the production of electrical products. Its assortment contains about 160 types of cables, and the total number of their mark sizes exceeds 14,000. A part of Uralkabel's products is certified by military departments and can withstand operational loads even in the most extreme climatic zones.
OJSC Kosulinsky Abrasive Plant
The company has been known since 1895 as a manufacturer of burnt lime and brick. In the winter of 1941, equipment for the production of abrasive tools and additives was delivered here, and in the spring their mass production began.
The rapid development of the Kosulinsky abrasive plant began after the war. At the turn of the 1940-1950s, a number of the latest technologies were mastered, which made it possible to produce scarce products:
- high-speed grinding wheels;
- porous circles;
- wearproof tool on a bakelite bunch.
In 1967, the building for the production of large-diameter abrasive wheels (up to 600 mm) was commissioned. In 1970, an Italian conveyor was installed, which made it possible to establish the manufacture of hot-pressed grinding wheels. The tool was supplied for domestic automakers, in particular VAZ, KamAZ. The year 1977 became important for the factory workers: the team mastered the production of cutting wheels that are difficult to manufacture. In 1992, KAZ was corporatized. In 1999, the production of superhard chemically resistant and refractory zirconium electrocorundum was launched.
Industry leader
In the XXI century, a large enterprise in the Sverdlovsk region continues to develop dynamically. The product range has expanded significantly, the production of grinding wheels has been mastered:
- up to 900 mm in diameter;
- on a ceramic bond (up to 600 mm);
- based on silicon carbide on a ceramic basis;
- hot-pressed with a high grinding coefficient;
- cutting-off by Italian technology.
Nizhny Salda Metallurgical Plant
Founded as the Saldinsky Metallurgical Plant by the industrialists Demidovs in 1760, it is one of the oldest domestic producers of cast iron. Rails made by Saldin craftsmen were used when laying the first railway in Nikolaev in Tsarist Russia. In the 1870s, the enterprise, an outstanding metallurgist Polenov, developed a revolutionary blast furnace design that, at the same time as improving productivity, improved the quality of the smelted metal.
After the revolution, production at the Salda factory was frozen until the end of the 1920s. During the Great Patriotic War, production of rare nickel special steels was mastered here. Two powerful 100-ton open-hearth furnaces are simultaneously introduced. By the 1950s, SMZ was becoming one of the best industrial enterprises in the Sverdlovsk region.
However, as equipment became obsolete, output was gradually reduced. In 1999, the plant turned out to be near bankruptcy, only competent external management made it possible to avoid company closure. Today, the Nizhnesaldinsky Metallurgical Plant produces critical parts for the railroad track: linings, terminals, gaskets, thrust brackets, etc.
Stroydormash OJSC (Alapaevsk)
The plant specializes in the production of drilling equipment, supplies and tools. It was formed on the basis of the Scientific and Research Institute of Engineering Engineering of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army evacuated in 1941. It was a closed enterprise, the occupation of which is still not disclosed.
In 1956, the production site was transferred to the Ministry of Road Construction Engineering. Here, the assembly of mobile drilling and crane installations of the BKGM-AN-63 series and their modifications was arranged. They were actively used for the development of virgin lands and the laying of lines of low-voltage power networks. The machines were used to drill holes for power poles, search for water and equip columns, determine the type of soil in the construction industry, etc.
In the difficult for many 1990s, the plant not only survived, but also increased the pace of production, and expanded the range. In 2004, the company was awarded the title of the most innovative in the Sverdlovsk region. In 2015, the company merged with BKM-Group LLC in order to accumulate funds for modernization and expansion of sales.
