Actor Papanov

short biography

The actor was born in 1922 in the city of Vyazma, but most of his life he lived in Moscow. In the capital, he went to school, worked as a foundry worker in a factory. With the outbreak of war, he was called to the front, but because of a serious wound, he did not have to serve long. Thanks to his talent and experience in the drama club, after returning to Moscow, he managed to enter GITIS immediately for the second year. After graduating from the institute, Papanov, together with his young wife, actress Nadezhda Karataeva, moved to Lithuania, where she was sent by distribution. They did not live there for long. A year later, the young couple returned to Moscow, where Anatoly Dmitrievich was offered a place in the Satire Theater. There he worked until the end of his days.

First steps to the cinema

If at the beginning of his acting career on the stage of the theater Papanov shone, then he developed a complex relationship with the cinema. At first, the camera simply hypnotized the artist and prevented his acting talent from opening up. Therefore, at first he appeared on the screens only in small roles. One of the first films with the participation of Papanov was released in 1952 and was called "Glinka Composer", where he got the secondary role of adjutant. The following films with Anatoly Dmitrievich Papanov were also in episodic roles with him and did not bring him much popularity, but helped to get comfortable.

Career turning point

In 1963, he was given a role in the film, Alive and Dead, based on a book by Konstantin Simonov. The hero of Papanov, General Serpilin, had to sit in prison before the Second World War because of Stalin's repressions. The actor himself, not confident in his dramatic talent, for a long time did not agree to this role, arguing that he was comedic. But it turned out to be in vain. Papanov perfectly approached this role, because he, like the front-line soldier, had a lot in common with the hero, and after surviving the horrors of the war, he kept in his heart a love of life and humanity. It was this role that brought him the first State Prize and success in the cinema. Since then, films with Papanov began to appear more often on screens, and the artist already got large roles.
