In terms of terminology, a football field is a flat rectangular area that is specially equipped for this game and has artificial or turf cover, depending on the competition rules. Mass preparation of such sites started back in the nineteenth century, despite the fact that most of them had matches at that time for a long time. The area of a football field can be different. According to archival documents, the oldest of them in the world is located in the small town of Linglington in the UK.
The strict
size of the football
field is not defined. Based on the official rules of this sport, the maximum width can be 90 meters, and the minimum - 45. As for the length, it should not be more than 120 and less than 90 meters. Thus, the largest possible area of a football field is 10.8 thousand square meters, and the minimum is 4.05 thousand. As you can see, this parameter changes very significantly. It should be noted that the official UEFA rules also state that for international competitions it is possible to use fields whose dimensions are not less than 100x65 meters.
The size of the
football goal has its own standard, which is strictly defined. Their width and height are 7.32 and 2.44 meters. Around the gate there is a goalkeeper area measuring 18.32 x 5.5 meters. Left and right, it begins at a distance of the same five and a half meters from the goal posts. In each of the corners of the field
circles are drawn with
a radius of one meter. It is with them that corner kicks are performed. Also, 9.15 meters from the corners, appropriate marks can be applied to determine the place where the players of the opposing team have the right to be during their penetration. In the middle, the football field is divided by a line. A circle is drawn in the center. Its radius is equal to the usual 9.15 meters.
Another important parameter that characterizes a football field is the area of the penalty area. Its dimensions are 40.32 x 16.5 meters. This unusual length is explained by the fact that from each bar to the sides of opposite borders it is measured 16.5 meters. In total with the dimensions of the goal, the result is 40.32. On the side of the penalty area, located opposite the goalkeeper’s place, an arc of a circle with a radius of 9.15 meters with the center at the eleven meter mark is plotted. Behind it should be football players in the event of a penalty shot. The size of the penalty area is always the same and does not depend on the size of the football field.
Behind the site itself, the so-called technical zone is indicated with a dashed strip. During the match, substitutes and the coach must not cross its limits. It is impossible not to focus on the fact that the marking is carried out by lines, absolutely each of which has a width of 12 centimeters and is fully included in the area of the football field. Another interesting fact is that, according to UEFA recommendations, the longitudinal axis of the field should be heading north. The explanation for this is that in this way the influence of bright sunlight on the game of football players is minimized. This is not specified in the official rules, but only if such a wish is fulfilled, the stadium has the opportunity to be included in the UEFA Stadium Rating.
