Biography

martin broder

Martin Broder was born on May 6, 1972. His father, Denis Broder, was also a hockey player and played for the national team. Together with her, he won the bronze medals of the 1956 Olympics. After completing his professional career, he worked as a photographer in the Montreal Canadiens team.

From early childhood, Broder dreamed of a hockey player's career. But not the goalkeeper. He dreamed of becoming a super striker. At the age of seven, a conversation with the coach took place, which predetermined his life in many respects. He decided to play the goalkeeper position.

After several years of intense training and a debut as part of the St. Iacent Lazar team (belongs to the Canadian junior hockey league), Broder was spotted by scouts. Already in 1990, he was selected by the team of the New Jersey Devils under the twentieth number in the draft.

Career

As part of the “New Jersey” Martin Broder made his debut in March 1992 at the age of nineteen. Then during the season he played in the American hockey league for the Utica Devils team.

From the 1993-1994 season defended the colors of the "devils" for twenty-two years. In 1994, he was recognized as the best new NHL player.

Already in 1995, together with his team, he became the first ever owner of the Stanley Cup.

Martin Broder for all the time of his career only managed to break records. For example, he became one of the goalkeepers capable of scoring goals. In April 1997, in a game against the team, “Montreal Canadiens” made a throw from his goal. And the puck, which no one interfered, flew straight into the opponent’s goal. In total, the goalkeeper has three goals. He is a champion in this regard.

In 1998, Martin Broder received an invitation to the Canadian national team. He was to perform at the Olympics in Nagano. It was a great honor for the goalkeeper, and he, without hesitation, agreed. However, the goalkeeper watched the game from the bench. The coach decided to release a more experienced goalkeeper on the ice.

But the next Olympics brought Martin the fame of the most reliable goalkeeper. Largely due to his professional actions, Canadian hockey players won the gold of Salt Lake City.

In 2005, Broder was offered a contract at Vanguard. But the goalkeeper refuses the favorable conditions of the Omsk club, since he is very far from Canada. In addition, the hockey player was frightened by the opportunity to meet a bear on the streets of a Siberian city. He was seriously interested in his agent about how people survive in distant Omsk, because the air temperature there sometimes drops to minus forty degrees.

In December 2014, Martin Broder signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues Club. The amount amounted to seven hundred thousand dollars. Many called this decision strange. Everyone noticed that Broder’s playing style had noticeably worsened, yet age made itself felt. After several games of the season, he announced his retirement from professional sports.

Broder is a three-time winner of the Stanley Cup (1995, 2000, 2003), trophy prizes, has two silver medals from the World Championships and two Olympic golds.

Highscores

Martin Broder is a universal goalkeeper who could play in different styles. He himself paid great attention to this moment in his autobiographical book. However, not only this distinguishes him from the hockey mass of goalkeepers.

Broder is a record holder. The list of his achievements takes more than one line. Here are some of them:

  • won 691 matches;
  • did not miss the puck in 125 matches;
  • scored the winning goal in one of the games (the only goalkeeper in the history of hockey) ;
  • spent 1266 games in his career.

Personal life

In 1995, Broder was married to Melanie Dubois, a resident of Canada. The couple had three sons and a daughter. However, family life did not last long. Already in 2003, Dubois filed for divorce. The reason for this was the betrayal of Martin.

He began a relationship with Genevieve Nol, who was Melanie's sister-in-law. In 2008, Nol and Broder got married. And in 2009 they had a son, Max Philip.

Broder's older sons followed in his father's footsteps. All of them are engaged in hockey professionally. For example, Anthony was drafted by the New Jersey Devils under two hundred and eighth number (in 2013).

Jeremy and William (twins) act in the positions of striker and goalkeeper.
