Foundation of an enterprise
The Irkutsk Heavy Engineering Plant began its history in 1907. On the site of the current giant, convoy workshops were built that produced products for the Russian army. In 1912, an iron casting plant was attached to the workshops.
Soviet power came to Irkutsk in 1920, production was nationalized, the wagon was called “Agricultural Plant”. During the period of the country's recovery after the devastating Civil War, the enterprise produced plows, winders, horseshoes, axes and much more that the nascent collective farms needed.
Heavy Machinery Pioneer
In 1927, the plant switched to the balance of the Soyuzzoloto system, and in the workshops they mastered the production of equipment for the gold mining industry. In 1929, the workshops became the basis for the construction of the Irkutsk heavy engineering plant named after Kuybyshev, the start of economic and industrial activity was given a year later.
Before the war, IZTM began production of equipment for metallurgical plants, open-hearth and blast furnaces, rolling mills left the shops. Since the beginning of the war, the Staro-Kramatorsk Machine-Building Plant from Donetsk was evacuated to the territory of the Irkutsk Heavy Engineering Plant, all the workshops were transferred to the production of products for the needs of the front. In 1945, for outstanding services and contribution to the Victory, IzTM was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
The main stages of development
In the postwar decades, the Irkutsk Heavy Engineering Plant increased production rates, mastered the production of new products, modernized production lines, and purchased the latest equipment for workshops. In 1946, the enterprise produced 13 completely new types of machines, 14 modernized types of machinery and equipment for leading industries - metallurgy, mining, gold mining, oil.
In 1947, at IZTM, in the design bureau of the enterprise, the project was completed and the main units of the 150-liter river dredge intended for gold mining were transferred to production.
In 1966, the company completed the manufacture of a machine designed for casting ferroalloys. The technique became unique - the length of the conveyor was 70 meters, and ingots poured weighing 80 kilograms.
In 1967, the plant presented its products at the All-Union Exhibition (VDNH), where it received a diploma. In the same year, the company launched the world's largest 600-liter electric dredger. Also, unique equipment was designed for the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant - ferrophosphorus casting equipment and equipment for a blast furnace, the volume of which amounted to 5580 cubic meters.
In 1977, the plant supplied equipment for the largest industrial facility of that time - blast furnace No. 6 in Novolipetsk.
Since 1992, the enterprise was transformed into OJSC Irkutsk Heavy Machine-Building Plant. To overcome the crisis situations that occurred in the manufacturing sector, in 2003 a design team was created at the plant, the tasks of which were to develop new products and modernize production. In 2017, the company was transformed into the open joint-stock company Production Company IZTM.
Modernity
The main activities of the Irkutsk Heavy Engineering Plant are the design and manufacture of equipment for leading industries - gold mining, processing, as well as for ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises. More than 600 specialists are working in the workshops, the territory of the plant occupies 40 thousand square meters. During the year, the plant produces about 7 thousand tons of metal products supplied to the domestic and foreign markets.
Over the entire period of activity, more than 180 drags have come out of the factory’s shops. Equipment for blast furnaces produced at IZTM is located at all specialized enterprises of the former USSR and in some foreign countries. More than 150 mining enrichment plants are equipped with equipment manufactured in Irkutsk. The plant produces non-standard equipment, often the products are sold in a single copy, which indicates not only the modern technical base of the company, but also the high professionalism of all participants in the process.
Development and Achievements
The IZTM design bureau has an experimental base where new equipment is created that has no analogues not only in Russia but also in the world. The ability to create large piece equipment allows the company to constantly develop and be competitive. Among the leading customers of the enterprise are the largest CIS companies - Sayanogorsk and Bratsk aluminum plants, Mikhailovsky GOK, Severstal, Krivorozhstal and many others.
In 2005, the plant received the gold medal of the exhibition “Sibnedropolzovanie-2005” for the quality of its products; in 2008, the company was among the winners of a competition of innovative projects held by the Irkutsk Regional Administration. Each year, the company concludes a large number of cooperation agreements, so, since 2008, the company has been cooperating with the foundry company "Nadezhda" (China). The result of the joint activity was an increase in production volumes.
No less fruitful was the collaboration with the Russian giant for the production of fertilizers, the company ZAO North-West Phosphorous Company. IZTM won the tender for the production of thickeners. Due to the implementation of this order, the total annual production of IZTM increased by 5%, the contract amount is estimated at 30 million rubles.

Irkutsk Heavy Engineering Plant (TIN 3809004942) is the only manufacturer of non-standard equipment for gold mining, diamond mining, mining and processing enterprises, as well as for ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy in Russia and the CIS countries. The plant has its own foundry facilities in Irkutsk and China, where a wide range of cast billets and spare parts for engineering is produced.
