But after very little time, a punitive detachment of Germans attacks the camp. The entire partisan platoon dies under a massive attack by the enemy. Teenagers miraculously survive and return to the village, which was also under Nazi fire. Fleur finds a small group of survivors, but does not see her relatives there. Upon learning that they died and, having blamed themselves for their death, he decides to commit suicide, but his fellow villagers do not allow him to commit suicide. The teenager becomes rude, nothing is left of the seasoned childish appearance. Fleur goes through many trials, he sees the cruelty and heartlessness of the Nazis. An entire village is being burned before his eyes. German soldiers scoff at him, taking advantage of his weakness. But, falling into the detachment of partisans, he enters their ranks. The picture shows all the horrors of war through the eyes of a teenager, that residents and rear workers suffered no less than Soviet soldiers on the front line.

Suddenly, a quiet noise is stunned by the sounds of flying fighter jets. Anya immediately runs to her father, and Sasha - to the gathering place in case of mobilization. The whole garrison is in panic, people take weapons without orders, others try to escape through the central gate.

But no one succeeds in getting out, they are met by the crossfire of the enemy, as a result, everyone who tried to run out through the main entrance died. The Kholmsky gates are captured by the enemy, the aggressors lead the prisoners of war forward, hiding behind their backs. The Nazis demand surrender, Commissioner Fomin goes to negotiations, raising his hands. He approaches close range and with a loud command “Lie down” orders the prisoners to lie down. As a result, the Nazis, having lost their human shields, are destroyed by the crossfire of Fomin's platoon.

Sasha sees complete chaos, as directed, he was to flee to a special house, but it was destroyed. Andrei Kizhevatov understands that this fight will not end for him, he sends his wife and daughter Anya captive, and he remains with his soldiers to fight back to death. The soldiers who remained in the fortress fought until their death, no one surrendered to the enemy. A voiceover tells about the fate of many soldiers and officers who were awarded posthumously. Sasha gets out of the fortress. Walking through the field, he squeezes a small bundle, later it becomes clear that this is a combat banner.
