We understand the disease hyperthyroidism: symptoms, treatment, prognosis

Hand tremor, trembling in the body, unstable emotional state, rapid decrease in muscle and fat mass, heart palpitations ... All these symptoms seem to be a disease of the nervous system. However, it is not. Similar symptoms are “classic representatives” of hyperthyroidism. This is a fairly common disease, which manifests itself in adults and children. Or maybe you don’t know what hyperthyroidism is? Symptoms, treatment of this disease and answers to questions related to this can be found in this article.

Clinical picture

If this disease occurs, then, of course, the person will ask himself: "What is hyperthyroidism, symptoms, treatment of this disease?" In this article we will try to "sort through" the nuances of this pathology.

The functioning of the thyroid gland in the human body affects the functioning of almost all vital organs. It is closely related to the immune and nervous systems, with which the body is coordinated. The importance of the thyroid gland is that its hormones are necessary for every cell; without them, existence is impossible.

Triiodothyronine and thyroxine (T3 and T4) are the main “building blocks” of the endocrine system. With an overabundance of these hormones, the disease hyperthyroidism occurs. It means hyperthyroidism. When she works in the “enhanced mode”, more of her hormones are released into the body, and her structure itself increases.

There is such a thing as subclinical hyperthyroidism. This is such a situation when the clinical manifestations of the disease are either absent or almost invisible, but the hormonal background is already impaired.

With confirmed hyperthyroidism, a person loses weight in a short time, his nervous system seems shattered by others (he is quick-tempered, angry, sharp in movements). Then distraction arises. The patient complains that “everything falls from his hands”, he is inaccurate with the objects that he uses. This is due to hand tremor, which is the first signal in hyperthyroidism. If the disease is not treated for a long time (quite often, unaware doctors confuse it with diseases of the nervous system), there is a bulging eye. There is also increased sweating, a constant feeling of heat. These symptoms are accompanied by a strong heartbeat, which in moderate severity of hyperthyroidism is equal to 134 beats per minute. None of the sedatives can remove these symptoms. Hyperthyroidism in children is manifested in the same way as in adults.

Treatment

Now we know what hyperthyroidism is. Symptoms, treatment of the disease depend on many variable factors. Throughout the disease, it is necessary to regularly conduct a blood test for the content of hormones T3 and T4. Depending on the results, the doses of the drugs vary.

As a rule, treatment is divided into three areas:

  • General body support (glucose injections, vitamin shakes). In this way, the doctor tries to return the patient's weight to normal.
  • Strengthening the heart muscle and blocking an increased heartbeat. This is achieved using drugs containing a complex of vitamins of group B. To weaken the heartbeat, as a rule, anaprilin or similar drugs are used.
  • Stabilization of the nervous system. Various sedatives are prescribed (Afobazol, Adaptol).
  • And finally, the effect on the thyroid gland itself. Anti-hormonal medications are prescribed that block the constant release of thyroid hormones (e.g. tyrosol).

Forecast

Now that we already know what hyperthyroidism, symptoms, and treatment of the disease are, I want to find out how likely it is to cure an ailment. Here, unfortunately, there can be no guarantees. Neither the medical method of treatment, nor surgical intervention can put the final point: “yes” or “no”. Therefore, you must do everything possible in order to recover, and then do everything so that the disease does not come back. In most cases, hyperthyroidism in one group of people then disappears, then resumes periodically, while in the other group it is stably preserved. In rare cases, this disease disappears forever.
