Quotation marks are a special character used in writing. It allows you to draw quotes, a variety of references, titles and individual words. The character is often used when typing on a computer. Types of quotes
Quotation marks are a means of highlighting certain words, names or outdated / slang particles. Before you start printing the corresponding characters in a text editor, you should pay attention to the fact that they are different.
Here are some quotes in practice:
- "Christmas trees" - "and";
- "paws" - βandβ;
- Polish - "and";
- English double - βandβ;
- English singles - 'and';
- Swedish - "and".
Further actions directly depend on which quotes will be used on the letter. There is no fundamental difference in the algorithms; the bulk of the following suggestions are universal.
Windows to the rescue
Quotation marks are a special character. It is often used when typing.
To insert quotation marks in a text document, you can use the "Character Table". It is in all Windows. With its help, users can easily insert a variety of quotation marks and other characters into the text.
The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- Go to the "Start" and find there the "Symbol Table". You can do this using the search line or the menu item "Standard" - "Service".
- Scroll through the list of characters and look for certain quotes there.
- Double-click on the thumbnail of the selected character.
- Click on "Copy".
Now you can open a text document, and then use the RMB + "Paste" command. An alternative to it is the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + M (Russian).

How to put quotes in this or that case? Fortunately, modern users can type various characters using the keypad. And quotation marks are no exception.
Here are tips to help you get the job done:
- Press "Shift" + 2. This combination will help to put "Christmas trees" in Word and Polish quotes in other text editors. The combination is pressed during the Russian layout.
- Switch to "English" and then press Shift + E. This is a quick way to print Polish quotes.
- It is proposed to write English single quotes by switching to "English" and clicking on the "E" button. It is located on the left side of the keyboard, under Esc.
There are faster and more versatile tricks. What is it about? Next, possible methods for printing quotes in text editors will be presented. Some of them are actively applied in practice.
Word features
Need to override the name in quotation marks? You can do this using the built-in options in Word. This is a special insert. It allows you to print any available characters, even those that are not on the keyboard.
To bring the idea to life, the user needs:
- Open Word and go to the "Insert" tab. This option is located at the top of the dialog box, on the toolbar.
- Select the "Symbol" command. In some versions of Word, the corresponding service may be signed as a Special Symbol.
- Set the value "Punctuation marks" in the "Set" section . You can do without this step, it will simply simplify the task.
- Find quotes that you want to put.
- Double-click on the left mouse button, placing the cursor on the icon with a symbol.
It is done. The described actions will print the selected character. Now the user will be able to activate the special paste service at any time and create any printable character.
Codes in the "Word"
Quotation marks are a common character in a letter. Writing it by hand is not difficult, but typing on a computer can cause problems.
Any printable character can be created in Word using ASCII codes. They are sometimes called decimal. With their help, users are able to quickly print a variety of symbols.
In our case, we have to act like this:
- Activate the Num Lock mode on the computer. Without it, the method will not work.
- Hold down the Alt key. You can use Alt gr.
- Dial the decimal code responsible for printing certain quotes.
- Release the pressed keys.
Immediately after the end of entering the digital code, the request will be processed and the numbers will be converted into a character. Here are the ASCII you can enter:
- 0171 - double opening herringbone;
- 8249 - single opening quotation mark;
- 0187 - the closing "fir-tree";
- 8250 - single closing quotation mark;
- 8222 - "paws" opening;
- 8218 - single "paws" opening;
- 8220 - "paws", closing;
- 8223 - opening double;
- 8216 or 8219 - single opening (from above);
- 8217 - single closing (from above);
- 0034 - double universal.

Hexadecimal codes
It's about using hexadecimal codes. Quotation marks are a common character that can be used in different ways in electronic text. The main thing is to figure out how to act.
To use Unicode, you will need:
- Enter one or another combination to print quotes. A list of possible "words" is presented below.
- Hold Alt + H (Russian).
By analogy with the previously proposed list of quotes, the user can enter the following Unicode:
- 00AB;
- 2039;
- 00BB;
- 203A;
- 201E;
- 201A;
- 201C;
- 201F;
- 2018;
- 201B;

- 0022.
