Desmurgy

The section of medicine devoted to the rules for applying dressings is called desmurgy. A bandage means a set of therapeutic agents that are applied to the patientโ€™s body for various diseases and injuries. In the narrow sense, the term dressing refers to the method of closing received wounds or pathological changes in the skin surface. In this case, holding, pulling, fastening or pressing dressings are used. The complex of all dressing actions is called dressing. In medicine, the so-called soft dressings are most widely used. According to their purpose, they are divided into medicinal, immobilizing, protective, corrective and pressing dressings.

Medicinal

When a dressing is applied to the affected area, drugs are applied in the form of an ointment, powder, gel or solution. Often, the material that will be in direct contact with the wound is also impregnated with the drug. An aseptic dressing is applied from above.

Protective

Dressings of this type are used to prevent secondary infection of the wound and protect it from external influences. A simple version of this dressing is a regular aseptic dressing. This also includes occlusive dressings and film-forming aerosols. Occlusive dressings are used to seal the body cavity, for example, with penetrating wound of the chest.

Pressing

Pressing dressings are used to stop bleeding. Put them in place of the damaged vessel. The technique of applying a pressure dressing is to tightly wrap the damaged area with a bandage. At the same time, a gauze pad or a roll of bandage is applied to the wound site. The bandage must be tight. The application of a pressure bandage during bleeding occurs in alternating diverging directions. Bandage tours lie on top of a gauze pad with maximum density. The same dressing can be done with a muscle break. Pressure dressings can also be used to create uniform pressure on the limbs. With varicose veins, for example, leg bandaging is performed with an elastic bandage.
