Leeward side ship - this is the opposite side from where the air flows. For sailing ships located in the leventica (strictly against the movement of air masses), this can be called a board that was under the wind before moving to this position.
Alien tack
Tack is the direction of the vessel relative to the wind. Two options are officially recognized: left and right. In Russian practice, there is the concept of someone else's tack, indicating the position of the vessel in fair wind. The main sail - the mainsail - in this case is located on the windward side. The leeward side in this case is determined by the location of the grotto. Where the main sail is, there it is. In fact, when moving in this way, the leeward is called the leeward side.
When driving a fordewind course (the direction of the wind is strictly aft), the leeward side is determined by the position of the sail, as in the case of someone else's tack.
Linked yachts
There are several provisions relative to each other in the adjacent yachts:
- Purely behind.
- Purely ahead.
- Interconnected.
In a situation where the hull of one ship is located beyond the endpoint of another, the first is cleanly ahead, the second is cleanly behind. When one yacht overlaps another, they are called connected. In this position, the leeward is considered to be the one located on the corresponding side of the windward vessel. She has the right to move, that is, they must give way to her.
In the natural landscape
The leeward side is the area farthest from the wind. The most noticeable difference between the opposite slopes in the mountains. As a rule, territories protected from the influence of air masses have a more continental climate, that is, it is very hot in summer and severe frosts in winter. Large seasonal temperature differences are possible.
Thanks to the protection of mountain slopes, the amount of precipitation in such areas is less, which affects the agricultural activities of the people living there.
Leeward side falls into the "rain shadow", as a result of which it often has a very dry climate. The descending air flows that cross the mountain are heated, so this part of the landscape is characterized by warm winds. Under their influence, in a very short time, a thick layer of snow disappears. Such a sharp change in weather can cause some people to feel unwell.
Despite this, the mountain climate is good for health. Many tourist centers, resorts and sanatoriums are located in mountainous areas.
