For one hundred and eighty years, the Central Moscow Hippodrome has been operating. It occupies a vast territory, competing in area only with Kazan, Rostov and Krasnodar. The Moscow Hippodrome, whose history begins in 1834, is one of the largest and most popular in the Russian Federation.
Start of activity
The first horse race took place on the Khodynka field. Only twelve trotters participated in the competition. In 1834, only two running days were spent. Already with the onset of the 1880s, the Moscow Hippodrome began to expand its borders. To attract the maximum number of spectators, the number of participants (horse heads) was increased. The races became more spectacular for the Russians, not only trotting and smooth races were held, but also steeples and jump-hippies. Recent styles were very popular in those years, separate treadmills were reserved for them. All improvements at the hippodrome were carried out to attract spectators and popularize institutions of this kind.
When the civil war broke out, the Moscow Hippodrome ceased to operate. Military camps and rallies were held on its territory, on one of which Vladimir Ilyich Lenin himself spoke. The lobster races were resumed in 1921. From that moment, the Central Moscow Hippodrome did not stop testing horses; a sweepstake was held on the territory. From 1970 to 1983, trotting horses set more than fifty records of the USSR, also one absolute. Since 1997, a children and youth equestrian school has been working at the hippodrome.
Tote allowed
Over the many years of work, the Center has tested more than one thousand horses. In 1930, major changes took place in its history. Two hippodromes merged - due to the fact that the reconstruction of the railway junction of the Belorussky railway station was required. It was precisely because of its expansion that the question was raised of transferring or restructuring the Moscow zone for horse racing. Therefore, it was decided to merge the two racetracks into one. From that moment on, it became combined. In 2009, tote work was suspended at the Moscow Hippodrome. This slightly reduced the interest of the gambling audience in horse racing.
After three years (in 2012), the tote officially started working, which made the Moscow Hippodrome more popular (the schedule of races in 2014 and other periods can be viewed on the official website). The proceeds are sent to the development of horse breeding. Some of the revenues, of course, are involved in its functioning and support. Tote cashboxes operate under the Sportbet brand.
Horse breeds
The Moscow Hippodrome (whose official website is easy to find on the Internet) runs races every weekend. About five horse breeds participate in the races. All of them are of extraordinary beauty and endurance, specially grown for races.
Trotters are tested all year, this is approximately one thousand heads. Valuable prizes for horses are drawn at the Moscow Hippodrome. Russian, American, Oryol and French trotters take part in the races. The last breeds are bred in Russia and Ukraine, some are delivered from abroad.
The Moscow Hippodrome places the race schedule on its official website. It also provides information on the results of the races and other news. Today, the CMI has been transformed into an Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC). This reorganization took place in 2011.
Prize drawing
Every year, JSC conducts tests of thoroughbred and Arabian breeds of horses. Horses are grown in various stud farms throughout the Russian Federation. Also, some horses are purchased abroad.
“Derby Prize”, “Jockey Club”, “President of the Russian Federation”, “Russian Argamak”, “Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation”, “N. N. Nasibov Cup”, “Barca” - this is all the name of the prizes that the Moscow Hippodrome is playing . The 2014 race schedule ends today with a race for a purebred English breed. Three famous prizes are called "Elite Prize", "Big Summer Prize", "Summer".
At the hippodrome, to attract even more spectators, horse and camel races are conducted between horse races. They also experience endurance horses, organize equestrian polo competitions , contests and other sports.

Every year in June-July, a race of thoroughbred horses is held. Horse racing for the “Prize of the President of the Russian Federation” for the eleventh time gathered a large number of spectators. Horse suits
Not every horse participates in races. The color of the horse is one of the main identification features. With its help you can distinguish an animal, the suit is hereditary. It is determined by the color of the hair on the body, neck, tail, mane, limbs. The suit is bay and black, gray and red, nightingale and fawn, forelock and karaka, light bay and kaura.
Currently, people know about two hundred breeds of horses. Each is derived for a specific occupation.
