School uniforms in Russia may again become compulsory as early as September 1, 2013. This decision is likely to be adopted by law at the federal level, but the specific details will be left to the discretion of the leaders of the regions and regions. Despite the fact that the project is still under discussion, it has already caused a lot of controversy.

According to population surveys, 68% of respondents voted for the introduction of a school uniform. This position of the Russians is understandable: the adoption of a single style of clothing for all students has many advantages. First of all, the introduction of a school uniform creates a feeling of social equality: children from low-income families cease to differ sharply from the offspring of wealthy parents. In addition, a single style of clothing determines the child's belonging to a certain community, not without reason many educational institutions have long introduced their own uniforms. Another important plus is that teenagers will stop going to school in clothes that are more suitable for leisure, for example, in open tops, shorts, t-shirts with provocative patterns, jeans, tracksuits, etc.

But in Russia there are many opponents of the practice of universal unification. The old school uniform that was in our country from the 40s to the 90s, not only did it reject some of the students (as a rule, bright and non-standard personalities who resisted attempts to make everyone the same), very high quality. That is why some of our compatriots oppose the introduction of a single style for students: after all, then cultural diversity will disappear, individuality will disappear, and momentum for further development will be lost. And, despite the large selection of different fabrics, there is a fear that clothing for students will be uncomfortable or made of low-quality material. In addition, the introduction of a school uniform is a fertile field for corruption, because now in some educational institutions parents are obliged to buy things from a strictly defined manufacturer. And sometimes prices are set such that not every family can afford it. It is especially hard for parents with more than one school-age child.

However, lawmakers promise that they will take into account all the bad experiences of past years, and the most controversial issues will be left to the discretion of the local administration.
The main points of the new decree on the establishment of clothing requirements for students:
- the style and color of the form are established by the council of the educational institution, the parent committee and the board of trustees;
- each school will establish several types of clothing: formal, sports and casual;
- The school uniform should be done in a business style and be secular;
- the clothes of the student must comply with all sanitary and epidemiological requirements;
- in educational institutions will limit the ability to wear things with large fittings, symbols of informal youth movements, inscriptions and drawings that promote anti-social and illegal behavior.
Whether the introduction of a school uniform will be the right step, only time will tell.
