Regional Hospital. Mechnikova - a leading clinic in Dnepropetrovsk. In its walls people have been treated since 1798. Today, the institution has 40 specialized departments with a total capacity of 1175 people. Extensive scientific work is carried out at the hospital, advanced treatment methods are being introduced.

The railway hospital of Mechnikov is the largest medical institution in Dnipropetrovsk and the region. Last year, 257,000 people received expert advice, more than 36,000 were hospitalized, 15,000 operations were performed here, 80% of which are complex.

Department of Allergology
Mechnikov Hospital can be proud of the Department of Allergology, designed for 30 beds. The doctor of the highest category, Ph.D. Margitich Sergey Vasilievich. The department employs doctors of the highest category, who constantly improve their qualifications in leading clinics and institutes for the improvement of doctors in the cities of Kiev, Donetsk, and Lviv. The work of the department is carried out jointly with the Department of Hospital Therapy No. 1 and occupational pathology of the Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy.
Here, diagnostics and treatment of diseases of various severity and complications of patients with an allergological profile are carried out with the following diagnoses: bronchial asthma, hay fever, chronic, allergic rhinitis year-round, chronic relapsing urticaria, dermatitis, drug, food, insect allergy, Quincke's angioedema, anaphylactic shock and others .
Over 13 years of work, the department’s doctors, together with the department’s staff, published 48 articles in printed publications in Ukraine and Europe, 18 thematic speeches were made on television, 37 modern methods for diagnosing and treating allergic diseases were introduced. Doctors of the department are participants in medical forums.
Cardiology Department
Mechnikov Hospital (Dnepropetrovsk) is equipped with the necessary equipment to conduct complex operations. The following methods have been introduced:
- endovascular diagnosis of coronary heart disease and treatment;
- stenting: simple stents and coated stents.
A system for assisting patients with multifocal atherosclerosis has been developed and implemented. It treats damage to the coronary arteries in the brain, vessels of the lower extremities and the abdominal aorta, together with the departments of vascular neurosurgery and vascular surgery.
Diagnosis of arterial hypertension is carried out in possible directions:
- Endocrinological pathologies as the causes of arterial hypertension.
- Damage to the kidneys of inflammatory etiology, abnormalities of the vessels of the kidneys (renovascular hypertension) of a congenital and acquired nature.
- Determination of the degree of damage to "target organs" in AO using modern diagnostic methods: radioisotope renography, computed tomography, ultrasound and ultrasound of kidney vessels, kidney biopsy.
Department of Endocrinology
Designed to provide highly specialized inpatient care for patients with endocrine pathologies (mainly thyroid pathologies) and diabetes mellitus. The department has four doctors: head. Department Ekaterina Yurievna Malyar (regional endocrinologist) and doctors: Chukmasova N.A., Malashenko S.L. and Anisimova A.S.
Mechnikov Hospital initiated the creation of a school of self-control. The main goal of the school is to teach patients the basics of self-control, diet and insulin injection techniques.
Currently, the hospital employs:
- Therapeutic and surgical endocrine departments.
- Endocrinology consultants based on the regional advisory clinic and paid clinic.
- Cabinet "diabetic foot" on the basis of the outpatient department.
- Cabinet of fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid neoplasms.

Mechnikov Hospital: Department of Pulmonology
The work of the department is carried out jointly with the Department of Therapy and Occupational Pathology of the Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy (head. Prof. Alexander A. Kuryat). Diagnostics and treatment of non-specific diseases of the bronchopulmonary system are carried out here.
Doctors use all radiological diagnostic methods, magnetic resonance imaging , diagnostic and therapeutic fibrobronchoscopy, bronchography, ultrasound examination of the pleural cavity, ECHO cardiograph. Also:
- Patients with an unknown etiology of pleurisy have thoracoscopy and pleural biopsy.
- For body diagnostics, scintinography and angiopulmonography are performed.
- In lung pathology, nebulizer therapy of obstructive syndrome is widely used.
- Non-invasive ventilation of the lungs using an oxygen concentrator is performed for patients with pulmonary insufficiency. Blood is monitored with an oxygen pulse oximeter.
- The treatment of bronchial asthma is carried out according to the recommendations of GINA. Treatment of COPD - according to the recommendations of GOLD.
Department of Endocrine Surgery
Mechnikov Hospital is equipped with modern surgical equipment. In the 30-bed department, diagnostics and treatment of the pathology of the endocrine glands according to Ukrainian and international standards are carried out, all protocols and standards are implemented according to the recommendations of the WHO and the European and American associations. More than 500 operations for thyroid pathology are performed annually. The surgeons of the department have mastered the method of upper sternotomy for retrosternal tumors of the thyroid gland. The percentage of complications is only 0.74% - a record for Europe.
Since 2009, adrenal gland tumor surgery techniques have been mastered and are being conducted. In recent years, 24 adrenalectomies have been performed, 20 of them by laparoscopic techniques, including cancer and hormone-related adrenal tumors.
The number of patients treated with minimally invasive methods increases annually (which made it possible to avoid open surgery in 90% of cases). Only in the Dnepropetrovsk clinic in Ukraine a program for the combined treatment of advanced thyroid cancer has been implemented and is being successfully implemented.
Specialists of the department annually take part in lectures at international conferences and congresses. The department has 22 publications, including in international journals, 2 patents of Ukraine for inventions.
