When you look for the key to a certain encryption, you try to guess the understatement, the brain trains, and the mood improves. But this, of course, if the answer is found to be correct.

In addition, this is a useful activity, also very fun! Try to guess why the tongue is in the mouth. That will be a laugh!

Sorry to punish?

The word "pun" came to the Russian language from French. In the fifth republic, the term calembour denoted such a literary device when similar sounding was used in a single context:

  • several meanings of one concept;
  • meanings of two or more words;
  • meanings of different phrases.

The following pun options are available:

  1. The named word has a homonym (that is, they are written the same way, but mean different things).
  2. Any pun word is ambiguous (it has not one, but several lexical meanings).
  3. In the process of pronouncing several words that stand side by side, a new concept is obtained.

Puns are the weapons of a comedian, that is, the person who is able to notice funny phenomena in the world that are based on contradictions and share them with others.

The comic effect is achieved by emphasizing the contrasts of meaning. This is the pun in the question “why is the tongue in the mouth?”

The puzzle of intelligence

Old acquaintances. Elephant and Bonaparte

There are many so-called riddles-jokes built on this literary device - pun:

In the circus, the elephant worked honestly:

All amused and entertained.

And bananas for work

I got it straight into the cage.

But everything changed once,

The giant was freed.

And her important walk

He left the old circus.

The trainer forgotten

Only the castle dangles.

And his prison is open,

And the elephant is having fun.

Question: what did our friend elephant do

Then, when did he come to the field?

(answer: eat grass)

Here the trick is that when pronouncing the combination of the words “on the field, he” sounds like the name of a famous historical character: Napoleon. Accordingly, the guesser begins to look for some kind of connection between the elephant and general Bonaparte.

Break a leg!

This principle is also used by the riddle "why is the tongue in the mouth." And it will be described in the appropriate section along with similar puzzles. And now there are several decades of riddles-puns, already known for decades, united in a comic poem:

The hunter came before dawn

On the forest path.

“I will get three hares,”

He decided the day before.

He often climbed for a long time.

Eared to not see.

The hunter went to the lake,

To shoot the ducks.

A flock to meet him

I’ll tell you, quite a bit.

He opened his mouth in surprise

I didn’t shoot and didn’t get it.

History asks you a question:

Why did the hunter carry his gun?

And I wanted to know something else:

Tell me, how many birds flew over him?

(answer: the hunter carried a gun over his shoulder, a flock of birds - 7 owls)

pun based puzzle

Here, the play on words is as follows: a word sounds almost the same as a combination of owls seven (especially with special recitative skills of a mysterious person). And the preposition “for” with the pronoun “what” is pronounced in exactly the same way as the interrogative adverb “why”?

Therefore, the guesser is forced to try to get at least some hints of the number of birds in the flock in the text and try to understand why the unlucky hunter carried weapons with him, if he did not use it.

And here we come close to the riddle "why is the tongue in the mouth." The answer is further in the text. Although a clear clue can be found already in the previous poem. Can try to answer the question right now, without reading the last paragraph? And then you can check yourself.
