Some terms, due to their brevity, expressiveness and invariable relevance, remain intact for millennia. For Russian-speaking citizens, an example of such a word is “butts”. This concept is applied in various spheres of life, but its key importance is firmly connected with various types of weapons. More precisely, with blades, as the absolute opposite of a blade.

Philologists have not been able to accurately trace the origins. It occurs in a number of Slavic languages, where it takes on the meanings:

- blunt part of a sharp gun;
- wooden beater.
In the first case, the conversation is often about a blade or an ax. The cutting edge allows you to use the tool for its intended purpose in labor and war, and a blunt thickening on the opposite side increases its safety. The butt allows you to increase the pressure when it comes to the knife, and in military weapons serves as the basis for fastening a hook, klevets or coinage. The second interpretation points to the hammer, which drive wedges and cleavers into a stubborn tree for subsequent splitting.
