He was born in 1978 in the US city of Nashville, Tennessee, and grew up in Manchester, where he attended the Coffee County Central High School. After school, he went to London and entered King's College London at the Faculty of English Language and Literature. Returning to Tennessee, he applied to Belmont University, where he became a member of the local theater troupe.
At the age of 14, the actor was diagnosed with cancer, which after two years of treatment went into remission, so he actively supports any research aimed at combating this disease.
