Metallurgical Plant Elektrostal: History, Production, Address

OJSC Metallurgical Plant Elektrostal is one of the largest specialized enterprises in the central region of Russia. A company with a century of history is a fusion of tradition and modern technology. Various steel grades of 2,000 types are smelted here, including special ones, and they produce billets and articles of high processing.

Metallurgical Plant Elektrostal

Base

The construction of a large steel-smelting metallurgical plant in Elektrostal began shortly before the fall of the tsarist regime. The industrialist N. A. Vtorov took up the idea of producing high-quality alloy steels using the electrometallurgical method. The first smelting was carried out on 10/17/1917, but the time of troubles came to a halt the development of a production unique to Russia.

After the victory in the civil war, the Bolshevik government set out to restore the plant in full and further increase its capacity. Already in 1923, the workers smelted the first batch of stainless steel. A year later, they began to pour magnetic steel. Since 1926 high-strength ball-bearing steel has been produced. 1932 was the year of mastering the technology of smelting nichrome alloy.

Development

In the 30s, the largest workshops of the Elektrostal Metallurgical Plant were launched. The plot of TWS-2, completed in 1930, is still operating. The production sites for rolling and forging alloy steels were commissioned.

In the Great Domestic Metal, the MZE was used for the manufacture of IL-2 attack aircraft, T-34 tanks, and Katyusha multiple launch rocket systems. Part of the equipment was prudently exported to the Urals; it became the basis for the creation of new enterprises. Shortly before the Victory, in March 1945, the team was awarded the well-deserved award - the Order of Lenin.

The year 1948 became tense. The plant’s technologists, with the assistance of scientists, were instructed to develop a process for smelting heat-resistant alloys, and engineers and workers to establish their industrial production. Despite the lack of technology, the problem was solved. Another ambitious task - to establish the production of precision alloys - workers received in 1949. After 3.5 years, the factory workers introduced tape rolling and sheet rolling production based on them.

Subsequent years, MZE was a leading supplier of complex steels and alloys for scientific and production structures, research centers, design bureaus, defense enterprises, rocket and aircraft manufacturing, the production of comic equipment, electronic equipment and other consumers. In 1971, the factory was awarded the Order of the October Revolution.

In difficult perestroika years, the enterprise was able to stay afloat. Moreover, management found opportunities for the full modernization of worn-out facilities. Thanks to the efforts of the team, the joint-stock company Elektrostal is one of the flagships of domestic metallurgy.

Factory today

Metallurgical plant Elektrostal smelts high-quality steels. This is not an easy task for workers in steelmaking workshops. The oldest of them is the workshop SPTs-2, it was put into operation in September 1930 and today it continues to work. Smelting is conducted in open furnaces.

However, modern metallurgy has stepped far forward relative to the 30s of the last century. There are more promising and economical methods of melting metal. At the MZE, this is the youngest steelmaking shop No. 6, launched in 1971. It is used to develop first-class steels for the aviation, space, defense industry, and rocket science.

Modernization

In 2015, the 60th anniversary was celebrated by one of the oldest sections of the Elektrostal Metallurgical Plant - the KPTs-1 workshop. He is the first in the chain of redistribution. Here, the modernization of press No. 2 was completed, on which ring blanks are made for further redistribution.

The youngest site at the Elektrostal metallurgical plant is the KPTs-3 workshop. It was created as a result of the modernization of equipment for the production of long products. It is used for the manufacture of blanks of various parts. KPC-3 is associated with the future of the enterprise, because here they receive products of deep redistribution, which have a higher added value. Based on the experience of its operation, it is planned to modernize other production sites.

Situation under control

An important mission is carried out by structures that provide enterprise monitoring, quality control and anti-corruption. For example, the Department of Economic Security. It works in two directions:

  • Checks external organizations that show a desire to cooperate with the Elektrostal metallurgical plant.
  • Engaged in the control of internal units. This includes: accounting for consumables, checking the safety of expensive material and technical values, ensuring irrevocable production.

OEB employees also evaluate the reliability of contractors involved in equipment installation and commissioning.

The Department of Technological Control checks the quality of finished products by innovative methods:

  • Ultrasonography;
  • Luminescent control.

In November 2017, the Elektrostal Metallurgical Plant celebrates the centenary of the launch and smelting of the first ton of steel. Distinguished workers of the plant will be thanked for their work with memorable awards.

Address of the enterprise: 144002, Russia, Moscow Region, the city of Elektrostal, Zheleznodorozhnaya-1 Street.
