Vasily Koshechkin is a goalkeeper who has been playing in the KHL for many years. Thanks to his work, he became one of the most titled goalkeepers in the history of Russian hockey. For his great contribution to the success of the national team at international competitions, Koshechkin was awarded the gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation.
First steps in sports
Goalkeeper Koshechkin was born on March 27, 1883 in Togliatti. From an early age, parents sent young Vasily to the local hockey section. He started his professional career quite early. In 2002, he moved to the Kirov-Chepetsk “Olympia”, which appears in the Higher Hockey League. It was in this team that Vasily first learned what “adult” hockey is. For ten matches held, he missed fourteen goals. After the first half of the season, this goalkeeper went to Almetyevsk “Oilman”. The statistics of the missed goals for Vasily in this team was worse. However, his game was highly appreciated by the coaches and fans of the team.
Super League debut
Since 2003, goalkeeper Koshechkin began playing for his native club Lada. He played for the Togliatti team until 2007. With his native club, this player was close to victories in prestigious tournaments several times, but he never managed to win. For 5 seasons spent in the Togliatti “Lada”, goalkeeper Koshechkin from a young and talented athlete turned into a star of Russian hockey. Many coaches wanted to see this reliable goalkeeper on their team.
In the 2007-2008 season, Vasily became a player in Kazan “Ak Bars”. This club has a great list of victories. Goalkeeper Koshechkin was supposed to help the team once again win the regular season. But in the Kazan team Koshechkin could not open. This goalkeeper began to make many mistakes and therefore lost his place in the composition. At the end of the season, he returned to the Togliatti team.
Career continuation
Returning to the Togliatti team, Koshechkin again began to show a high-level game. He started the season 2009-2010 in the Lada team, but during the regular season he moved to Magnitogorsk Metallurg. In the summer of 2010, it became known that Koshechkin signed a one-season contract with the Severstal team. The 2010-2011 season was very successful for him. At the end of the championship, he was recognized by the fans as the best player of the season. The contract with Vasily by mutual desire was extended for another two years.
Return to the Metallurg Magnitogorsk
At the end of the contract signed with Cherepovets Severstal, Vasily Koshechkin returned to Metallurg Magnitogorsk. A contract was signed with this club for 4 years. Together with this team, Koshechkin won the Gagarin Cup twice. The magnificent game of this goalkeeper has been repeatedly noted by hockey experts. Vasily made a great contribution to the success of the Magnitogorsk team.
International career
Goalkeeper Vasily Koshechkin for many years shows a reliable game. Therefore, it is not surprising that he took part in the World Cup five times. In the piggy bank of this goalkeeper there are all kinds of awards of the world championship. At the home championship in 2007, he and the team were content with a bronze medal. Two years later, the Russian team won the tournament. Vasily made a great contribution to the success of the team. It was after this championship that Koshechkin was awarded the state award. At the 2010 World Cup, Koshechkin won silver in the national team. At the Olympic Games, this goalkeeper was not part of the Russian team.
