Growing season, growing season - what is it? Under these concepts mean the period of time during which the plant grows, develops.
Vegetation periods for annual and perennial plants
Let us consider in more detail what vegetation in plants is. All plants are divided by their lifetime into annual, biennial and perennial. Each type has a specific growing season.
Annual plants throughout the growing season pass in just one season. During this time, seeds germinate, shoots form, buds and buds bloom, then the plants bloom, bear fruit, after which the seeds form and death occurs. A striking example of such plants are vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers) and annual flowers (petunia).
The growing season in perennial plants occurs several times, over many seasons, until they completely die. During life, perennial crops go through the same growth phases as annual crops, but in the end they do not completely die. The aboveground part dies from them. Over a lifetime, a perennial tree undergoes vegetation at least five times. But even having passed it once. the plant may die. To prevent this, gardeners update the plant.
An example of perennial crops can be various herbs, medicinal plants, garden and meadow flowers, for example, dahlias, lupins, poppies, dandelions, hosts, plantain.
Vegetation of water plants
You already know what vegetation is (what it is, duration, etc.). But how does it go in aquatic plants?
Typically, all aquatic plants are perennial crops. In blooming, the growing season is similar to the one that we examined earlier. For example, in nymphaea, the plant part dries after flowering, and the roots remain wintering in the ground. After awakening, new sprouts begin to appear in her, and the entire process of vegetation continues again.
Tree vegetation
And what is tree vegetation? In trees, vegetation does not proceed as in herbal plant species. The life cycle of giants is divided into several phases that they go through during the year:
- growing season;
- autumn transition period;
- peace
- spring awakening.
Each period has its own characteristics.
Vegetation
This period is considered the longest. At this time, the same processes occur in trees as in herbs, with the exception of death.
In the middle of the growing season, the tree slows down growth, but at the same time all the leaves continue to fulfill their function and accumulate starch. Shoots begin to become covered with bark of a lignified type, and the roots slow down growth.
Autumn period
All new shoots are covered with wood, sugar and other useful substances are prepared in all parts to help the plant overwinter. In autumn, the active growth of small roots begins. They build up before the onset of frost.
Peace
In winter, all the trees seem dead, but in fact they have a period of rest. The ground part of the plant sleeps, development stops completely, and at a depth of half a meter the root system is still developing, providing the tree with nutrients and water from the ground.
Awakening period
Spring vegetation - what is it? As such, the concept of "spring vegetation" does not exist. This is a figurative expression, implying the beginning of the growing season, occurring in the spring.
At this time, the trees begin to wake up. Nutrients and water begin to flow into the crown, which activate the growth of the aerial part of the plant. From this moment, the budding of buds begins, the growth of new shoots, flowering, seed ripening.
Vegetation in vegetables
Vegetation, what is it and how does it flow in vegetable crops? In fact, this is the same process as herbs, flowers, and other annual plants. However, in vegetables, the growing season takes less time.
Many are interested in the vegetation (what is and how it proceeds) of tomato, cucumber. In these crops, active growth lasts up to 80 days, but there are varieties in which active growth lasts 120 days. After this, the plants enter the period of seed formation, which should continue the genus.
Vegetation - what is it and what is its purpose? This is a period when plants are stocked with nutrients to form seeds and prepare for hibernation.
