Without passing a special analysis - a smear,
which must be taken from women upon
examination by a gynecologist, and by men from a urologist, it is impossible to assess the condition of the genitals. If the
white blood cells in the smear are elevated
, then it is possible to assume the presence of inflammation.
However, whether there is a disease or not, which pathogen caused it, all this is determined with the help of additional examinations, which include analysis for bacteriological culture or immunological examination of the material taken. It is impossible to accurately diagnose only on the basis that the smear result showed a large number of white blood cells.
The normal value of white blood cells in a smear
If in the analysis taken from the vagina, the white blood cells are 10-15 units - this is a normal smear. White blood cells are the norm of 15-20 units in the analysis, which is taken from the cervix.
When the level of leukocytes is exceeded significantly, or they have showered the entire "field of view" - then this condition is considered leukocytosis and we can talk about inflammatory diseases. The higher the number of leukocytes, the more acute the disease is.
During pregnancy, the value of white blood cells should be within the same limits as before pregnancy. Leukocytes in pregnant women in a smear increase not because of the bearing of the fetus and restructuring of the body, but because in this state the present chronic infections worsen, which were previously in a sleeping state.
The cause of leukocytosis
Leukocytosis occurs when:
- sexually transmitted diseases;
- inflammatory processes that are accompanied by a pathological change in the flora (thrush, colpitis and dysbiosis);
- diseases caused by hormonal disorders, for example, with endometritis;
- oncological diseases.
With adnexitis - inflammation of the appendages and urethritis - inflammation of the urethra, leukocytes in the smear are also increased . The latter disease occurs in both women and men.
Even if there is no secondary symptomatology, it is necessary to pay attention to the number of leukocytes. The infection can be in a state in a sleeping state, and then let you know about yourself at the most inopportune moment. Untreated diseases can interfere with conception, normal gestation.
I must say that sometimes the presence of inflammation is indicated by unpleasant sensations in the vagina, excessive presence of secretions with an unpleasant odor, burning sensation during urination. And while in the smear there will be a normal level of white blood cells. Does this mean that all these phenomena do not need to be paid attention to?
In no case! It is necessary to be treated. And the fact that the leukocytes did not increase indicates an individual course of the inflammatory process or a reduced immunity. In this case, the body does not fight infections.
What else can white blood cells say?
White blood cells in a smear are increased or lowered - you should know that this indicator does not only indicate the condition of the
organs. The leukocyte level can tell an experienced gynecologist about the woman's age, about whether she lives a sexual life or not.
If there is βnot enoughβ white blood cells in the smear, then this may indicate a decrease in immunity or the fact that a woman has practically no intimate life.
Sometimes, as a result of the analysis, white blood cells are completely absent. This indicates that the woman came out of childbearing age, and she already had vaginal atrophy.
You may find that the white blood cells in the smear of a woman are slightly elevated, but at the same time she is absolutely healthy. In this case, we can assume that she lives an active sex life. A similar picture may occur due to the presence of sperm in the smear.
