Our country has a rich hockey history. Many outstanding athletes were brought up by our Russian teams. One of these is Sergey Yuryevich Gomolyako.
The beginning of a hockey career
Sergey Yurievich was born and raised in Ufa. It was there that he first got on the ice at a local children's sports school. His first trainers were V.P. Dergach and his father, Yu.P. Gomolyako. It was the father who played an important role in the process of sports development of his child. He taught Sergei the basics of hockey, accustomed to hard work and discipline. Gomolyako Sergey Yuryevich said that his father often punished him for misconduct, not letting him go to the rink. At this moment he was very upset, but always found a way out. Sergey Gomolyako at that moment was collecting a hockey bag and jumping with it from the second floor of a slum apartment. Since there were large snowdrifts in winter, there was no risk of harm to health. Not far from the house there was a skating rink at the ZhEKe, in which young Sergey Gomolyako spent a large amount of his free time. After returning home, his father never scolded him. Since he understood that he was training, and not messing around.
The beginning of a professional career
Serious changes took place in the life of Sergei Yurievich. His father was invited to the post of trainer at the school of higher sports excellence in Chelyabinsk. The whole family moved with him. Gomolyako Sergey, at the age of 16, went for the main team “Metallurg”, which at that time played in the first league of the USSR championship. And a year later he moved to Chelyabinsk "Tractor" on the initiative of Gennady Tsegurov and Valery Belorusov. At first, Sergey Gomolyako did not want to leave his favorite Metallurgist. Since he liked the atmosphere in the team and its style of play. But Tsegurov and Belousov were adamant, and Sergey Gomolyako finally moved to Tractor.
Role in the Tractor Team
Initially, in the “Tractor” Gomolyaka acted as a central striker. Then coach Belousov decided to free him from defensive actions and transferred him to the position of an extreme striker. In the attack zone, Sergei still remained at the far dime, performing the functions of the center. But returning to the defense, he retreated to the edge, giving way to central Andrei Kudinov. Then Belousov managed to collect the very legendary three - Karpov, Gomolyaka, Varitsky, which will long remain in the memory of fans of “Tractor”. At 22, Gomolyaka showed leadership qualities and amazing dedication. For this he was awarded. At such a young age, he became the captain of his team.
Return to the Metallurg
In 1995, Belousov and many players left Tractor. Among them was also Sergey. He did not yet understand how correct that decision was. After all, his return to Metallurg turned out to be the brightest time for him in his professional career. Sergey and his team won the country's cup, gold in the championship of Russia and became the champion of the Euroleague.
Sergey was never a speed hockey player. Its main advantages were the power and possession of the club. Hockey experts called his hands plastic. He could get on any puck, take any pass, give a difficult accurate pass to a partner and make an accurate and strong shot on goal of the opponent. Due to the large weight and large physique, Sergey felt comfortable in a power struggle, not being afraid of an opponent.
Career for the national team
Specialists of the national team initially took note of this young talented hockey player. In 1987, Sergey Gomolyako and Tertyshny, at the invitation of coach Gennady Tsegurov, became part of the USSR junior team. But the first international tournament failed to win gold. The junior team of the USSR lost to the Finns and tied with Sweden. As a result, the junior team of the USSR received bronze medals. One of the most memorable events of this hockey player was the game for his country's youth team at the championship in Anchorage, which took place in 1889. The team included such future stars as Alexander Mogilny, Pavel Bure, Sergey Zubov and Sergey Fedorov. Amid such an abundance of superstars, Sergey Gomolyako showed decent hockey. In the World Cup final, our team fought with a team from Canada and won with a score of 7: 2.
Interest from the NHL
It was after a great game at the World Youth Championship that Sergei became interested in the national hockey league. In 1989, the Calgary Flames team selected him in the ninth round of the draft. Sergey Gomolyako (hockey player) was quite restrained both on the ice and in life. He calmly accepted the news. He began to mentally prepare for complex American training camps, but fate decreed otherwise. During a game of football on the basis of "Tractor", he broke his leg and was unable to come to the training camp.
Retirement
After receiving a serious injury, Gomolyak, at the age of 34, decided to end his sports career. However, then he decided to return to the team again. He had been preparing all summer, but on ice it turned out that the skin clings to a screw embedded in it. After that, the doctors strongly advised him to forget about returning to big hockey. But after completion, Sergei decided to stay in hockey, only now he has already begun to master coaching activities. For a long time he was among the coaches in Vityaz, Moscow Region, and then returned to the Urals to join the Avtomobilist team.
