If you ask a believer and a very religious person about which book, in his opinion, is the most important, then he will answer without a shadow of doubt: "This is the Bible." But has anyone ever wondered what it really is? If you mentally discard all the stories in it and try to understand the main idea, it becomes obvious that we are talking about a set of rules and norms of behavior. It also sometimes describes the consequences of non-compliance with these laws.
The same can be said about the PUE. Electrical installation rules are the same Bible, but not for everyone. It is intended only for those people whose profession is related to electricity. It is not for nothing that teachers, while teaching electricians, often repeat that the "Rules for the Installation of Electrical Installations" should become a reference book. And this is not surprising. The “Rules for the Installation of Electrical Installations” are a Code of Practice, but not for preparing for a new biblical world, but for the proper handling of electrical engineering. Appearing in 1976, the book evolved to the modern seventh edition. Moreover, this is caused not by a simple update of the cover or font, but by significant improvements, therefore it is recommended to use the latest edition. If in the Soviet Union the rules for the installation of electrical installations were the same for all republics, now the situation has changed. For example, Ukrainian and Russian PUEs may differ. Currently, the seventh edition, adopted in 2003, is relevant for Russia. This does not mean at all that the most recent book is precisely 2003. Circulations are printed almost annually, so you can easily find both 2009 and 2012, however, they still have the basis - the Seventh Edition. Electrical installation rules, in fact, are a document that defines the rules and regulations.
Since there are more and more different electrical installations every year, the PUE indicates which objects they are suitable for. It is important to note that the rules of electrical installations are mandatory, and not advisory, in nature. All individuals and legal entities must comply with the Rules.
This book is quite voluminous, as it contains seven chapters. The first is introductory. It provides general rules, clarifies terms and definitions.
The second is already practical. The features of the organization and maintenance of conductive lines are described (the term "sewage" is adopted in the book).
The third chapter is specific. Protective devices as well as automated electrical solutions are described in detail.
The fourth is reserved for substations and switchgear (switchgears).
The fifth describes the premises for various electric power machines (engines, generators), with both ground and hoisting mechanisms. Features of the maintenance of such electrical equipment. This section also includes the control automation section.
Sixth is dedicated to lighting. Cases with external and internal systems are considered. Light types of advertising. The rules for working with automation are described in detail.
And finally, the seventh, last chapter is dedicated to the electrical equipment of specialized power plants. This is electrical equipment of all types of buildings - household, residential, administrative, as well as club entertainment. The chapter includes requirements for the equipment of fire and explosion hazard zones.
Returning to the analogy with the Bible, the main objective of the PUE is to ensure safety during the operation of a particular type of electrical equipment. These Rules are irreplaceable. Sometimes questions arise regarding the design and maintenance of electrical appliances. The best way to find out a solution is to contact the PUE.
