The Rostov Hippodrome is the central place in Russia where tests of half-breed horses are carried out. In addition, thanks to the high-quality organization, Rostov at all times attracted the owners of English thoroughbred horses. It was here that the famous coach and jockey Nikolay Nasibov began his career. In addition, the Rostov Hippodrome is the first private Russian enterprise of this scale.

How did the Rostov Hippodrome
At the end of the nineteenth century, the Rostovites' favorite pastime was trotting. As a rule, the owners of the horses were wealthy merchants. Mostly Armenians and Russians bought horses in central Russia, and then boasted to each other with frisky horses. It was at that time that the merchants received land for the trotters. Then the Rostov Hippodrome was founded on it. (address: Rostov-on-Don city, Malyugina street, 233). Of course, at the beginning the hippodrome was rather pathetic. There was only one path, two cold stables and a small tribune made of wood, which had to be repaired all the time.
A little later, near the trotting hippodrome, land was allocated under the race hippodrome, since the organization of horse racing enthusiasts was much richer and more numerous. A two-story house and a huge tribune, as well as several spacious stables, were quickly built on the territory. Moreover, the entire territory of the complex was surrounded by a beautiful wooden fence. As a result, in 1894 the first races took place in Rostov.

Seven years later, the founders of the racecourse for horse racing suggested trotting society to start working together on their territory, as it was closer to the city center. Having received consent, the founders of the race hippodrome moved their horses and all their equipment to a new place. Since then, 1902 is considered the founding date of the Rostov Hippodrome. It is from this date that his work is being counted. At this time, in Rostov, the best, but not numerous, population of Don horses was under testing. In 1919, only 172 horses were tested. True, they belonged not only to the breeders of the Russian south.
Rostov Hippodrome during the Civil War
In the Civil War, agriculture was completely destroyed and devastated. All studs were liquidated. Famine destroyed the remnants of horse breeding. The gradual restoration of horse breeding in southern Russia began with the North Caucasus. In 1920, all horses that could be suitable for breeding were withdrawn from private ownership. A year later, the Rostov Hippodrome, reviews of which in most cases were positive, began to receive the first breeding horses captured in various places of the Kuban, Don region and Ciscaucasia. With the advent of new horses, jockeys and coaches began to visit the hippodrome. They assisted in the identification of horses captured from whites. Among the horses brought from Moscow were such thoroughbred stallions as Shamrat, Sympatyaga, Beck, Saigon, Satir, Anchar, Pamphlet, Cylinder. Subsequently, some of them will become the founders of the Terek and Budyonnovsk breeds.
Development of the Rostov Hippodrome
Gradually, the territory of the hippodrome changed. The length of the race track increased to 1968 meters. In the sixties of the twentieth century, only bends on the track, which was once trotting, reminded of the trials at the hippodrome of the trotters. In the center of the field was a gazebo made of wood with side stands. It was here that the demonstrations of the best horses were held for representatives of various ministries and simply for guests. In some years, up to five hundred horses of the most diverse breeds were tested in one race season: Trakenensky, Tersky, Budyonnovsky, Akhal-Teke, Don and English thoroughbred.
Around the same years, the Rostov Hippodrome (contacts: 8 (903) 473-473-8) was significantly improved. The superb steeple-track route was built, which, by the complexity of its route, was close to the well-known route in the Czech Republic. Here there was a huge rampart from the earth, and banquets with water, and beautiful green bars, and a large taxis. It was here that the steppers of our country were trained before going to competitions abroad. As you know, this dangerous sport has always attracted spectators of all ages with its entertainment.

At all times, the Rostov hippodrome was visited by the most motley audience. And the regulars did not miss a single day in which the races for agility took place. When the main traditional prizes were awarded, the number of fans sometimes exceeded five thousand. It was these sports and excitement lovers who supported a hippodrome, since thanks to them the cash flow in the sweepstakes increased. In addition, Rostov Hippodrome LLC boasts events such as international auctions, all-union competitions and many competitions in various equestrian sports.
Where are the competitions and training
The territory of the hippodrome is 28 hectares. However, most of the territory is occupied by a field and two tracks (training and prize), which border it. The most interesting event for the audience is, of course, horse racing. The Rostov Hippodrome is equipped with a prize track 21 meters wide and 1960 meters long, which has an irregular shape resembling a capsule. The track is sandy and quite dense. It allows horses to show good agility and at the same time protects their limbs from possible injuries. The inner side of the path is fenced with a narrow strip of shrubbery. The width of the training circle is 20 meters, and the length is 1860 meters. It is located parallel to the prize and at the same time adjoins the green field, where steeples are held. To conduct steeplechases, that is, racing with very steep obstacles, a special track was created on the green field, on which fourteen field obstacles were installed. Their height ranges up to one and a half meters, and a width of up to four meters.
Paddock and competitive field
In the paddock is a hitch and weight. There is also a small platform for jockeys, coaches and staff serving the stable. Competition field is located on the green. Next to it is the dressage arena, which hosts competitions in Olympic equestrian sports, as well as horse training in the winter season. In addition, horse riding lessons are held here. In the arena of the Rostov Hippodrome there is a small tribune for fifty seats, a cafe and a half-open two-tier gallery.
Stables and other buildings
The Rostov Hippodrome has 14 stables. Of these, two are two-story. The total number of stalls is 520, of which 93 are in summer boxes. In addition, the hippodrome has its own forge, granary, veterinary infirmary, ammunition depots and a dunghill.
