The novel "Orleans" was composed by an eminent contemporary, a domestic film playwright Yuri Arabov. His work immediately earned a reputation as a difficult opus of scenario genius, for which it’s impossible to remove anything decent. But after working together on the Horde, Arabs risked offering him Proshkin. Orleans is a film whose reviews are diametrically opposed, from dazzling laudations to devastating critics.

History of creation

Sponsored by the provocative project The Film Foundation, the film was produced by TNT Director Igor Mishin. He immediately ranked the picture as an art mainstream, comparing it with the films “Geographer drank the globe” and “Birdman”, and was sure that in Russia there is an audience who wants to watch such a movie. But because of the specific national gloomy sense of humor, “Orleans” did not get to international film festivals. Its premiere took place at the Moscow Film Festival. So far, the film attempt to reflect the modernity surrounding us has not been very successful in this chaotic modernity. The film "Orleans. Phantasmagoria of Sin ”reviews are called an attempt to betroth an evil comedy of the absurd, saturated with bloody madness and meaningful esotericism, with almost Orthodox preaching that it is bad to sin.

Plot

Orleans is a film whose actors are almost equivalent in their professionalism. MIFF selected only Elena Lyadova in the nomination "Best Actress". The film takes place in the provincial provincial town of Orleans among the Altai steppe. Broken hairstylist Lidka (Elena Lyadova) leads an erratic sex life, one after another doing abortions. Surgeon Rudik (Oleg Yagodin) ascribes imaginary mastopathy to patients and brings them to his home under the pretext of examining them, leaving his paralyzed father behind. Police investigator Nevolin (Vitaliy Khaev) is a real criminal, a thief in law. But everything changes at the moment when the executor (Viktor Sukhorukov) arrives in the city - just a conscience in the flesh. He persecutes sinners, making them almost mad.

A simple description cannot convey everything that the Orleans tape will demonstrate to the audience. The film received controversial reviews of the audience, perhaps because its creators tried to make a story out of the story.

Picturing sinfulness

While watching, it seems that the authors shot a conditional story with a clear morality. In it, the heroes are intended to illustrate intentionally grotesquely and exaggeratedly complexly arranged living people. But sometimes, painting the sinfulness of the characters, the authors get carried away and enthusiastically accept to satiate the stories of sinners with wild details. Therefore, it is difficult to watch the tape for the average layman.

"Orleans" is a film, reviews of the audience about which its creators reproach for the lack of taste and sense of proportion. In addition to the above, there are other problems - character dialogues distract from what is happening, as they are overloaded with philosophical concepts, quotes and names. The visual part is like an attack from direct angles, vibrant colors, extravagant details. The register of acting performance jumps from vaudeville to circus entreprise, and also tires of the abundance of artificial blood.

Explanations - Authors' Justifications

"Orleans" is a film about which the creators of the project were not indifferent. Proshkin and Arabs tried to explain to the indignant public that the stylistics of the shed grotesque was consciously chosen by them, as they considered this to be the only acceptable and modern way of talking with the audience. This technique was supposed to smooth out excessive moralizing pathos. But, apparently, it did not work, and a very dubious and excessively tough parable appeared on the screens, pretending to be a black comedy of absurdity.

Actors

So it turned out "Orleans" - a film whose actors save the situation as they can. First of all, the tape rests on the game of Elena Lyadova, who, after the release of the film, is considered the brightest film actress of the Russian Federation, and the wonderful theater actor from Yekaterinburg Oleg Yagodin, who began playing films only this year. But even they sometimes felt extremely insecure in the thrash, booth decorations, in which Proshkin unfolds his moral action.

Verdict

Ultimately, Orleans is grotesque, it is characterized by a moralizing and ironic estrangement from the depicted reality. This is a film about the fact that everyone, without exception, has skeletons in the closet. And one day the moment will come when you have to pay for everything at once. You cannot predict and predict when and where you will be caught and conscience will get. But at that moment a person will be the most vulnerable. This is the direct reference of Orleans to the Master and Margarita, and it is not the only one. The film "Orleans", of course, is the strongest statement about our time. There is no journalism in the film, this differs from Leviathan, but these two paintings can be safely put on one step. And you should definitely watch such a movie.

Orleans in world cinema

It is not known what motivated Yuri Arabov, and why he called his village Orleans. Perhaps this is just a sonorous name, which is repeatedly mentioned in the names of foreign films and series. For instance:

  • The series "Naval Police: New Orleans", 2014, (2 seasons).
  • Musical melodrama (1947). The film "New Orleans" received extremely positive reviews.
