From a guy who grew up without a father, no one expected anything special. At the age of 18, Zhenya receives 2 gold medals in Athens, in 1991, in swimming at a distance of 400 m and a relay race of 4 x 200. So, among the great Soviet athletes a new one appeared - Sadovy Evgeny Viktorovich. Swimming for him was the meaning of life. He beat records, received medals and hit the public with his stamina until the end of his sports career. Sadovy was born in the small town of Volzhsky in 1973. The boy had a very weak physique, so it was decided to send him to a swimming club, where he could become stronger and stronger.
Way to success
Sadovy Eugene Viktorovich begins to visit the pool with 6 years. In 1981, he and his mother moved to the city of Volgograd. From the first day at school, the guy enters the local swimming club, where in the pool he begins to win the guys who have been learning the basics of this sport for 3-4 years. It was at that moment that he was noticed by the famous Soviet coach Viktor Avdienko, who begins to practice with Zhenya. Sadovy simply amazed with his endurance and easily defeated eminent swimming champions in the Soviet Union. Already at the age of 19, Evgeny Viktorovich is part of the team of athletes at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. The victory was very difficult, but Zhenya climbed the podium along with such famous names as Christina Egerseki and Nicole Hayslett. But this was not the main achievement. On this day, the record of Cyrene Perkins, whose portrait adorned the hall of fame in Australia, was broken by Sadovoy. It was a real miracle, Eugene ahead of Cyrene at a distance of 400 meters by as much as 1.47 seconds, which is a very big margin in the world of sports. After that, Evgeny Viktorovich regularly climbed the national podium, leaving far behind his rivals.
"Krol" in a new way
Viktor Avdienko not only developed Sadovy’s abilities physically, but also came up with various “tricks” that would allow him to win. And the so-called "gliding technique", which was invented and mastered by Eugene and Victor, became the athlete's calling card. The new “crawl” or, as it was called at that time, the new “world crawl” allowed Eugene to overcome the length of the pool for 33 strokes, while other athletes did this for as many as 56 strokes. Without a doubt, this greatly affected the final result. Sadovy Yevgeny Viktorovich won using the methodology of the new “world rabbit”, even with the condition that, by the standards of swimmers, he was very short - 1.88 m, but it still did not prevent Sadovy from achieving success. Over the next few years, swimmers from around the world gradually began to master Sadovoy-Avdienko’s crawl.
Health problems
Exhausting workouts did not go unnoticed. Sadovoy developed Kenyan runners syndrome. It is due to the fact that the heart simply does not feel the load and does not accelerate its work. This could lead to loss of consciousness due to hypoventilation. Eugene could even swim all day in the pool tirelessly, but, unfortunately, the productivity of the results was falling. The signal that it was time to leave the sport was the new 1996. Then Zhenya celebrated the New Year in the family of Denis Pankratov and his wife Olga Kirichenko. And, as the athlete himself says: “I didn’t want to fall asleep and miss the New Year’s celebration, so I drank a cup of coffee,” the weakened heart syndrome of Kenyan runners could not stand a large dose of caffeine, and on the same night Viktor Avdienko phoned from the hospital’s department, reported that Yevgeny Viktorovich is in serious condition. For this reason, the athlete did not get to the competition in Atlanta, where, according to him, he could easily win.

Sadovy Yevgeny Viktorovich himself perfectly understood that he was training much more stubbornly and “better” than many of his compatriots. But what was his surprise when, at the stage of the World Cup in Moscow, the swimmer saw Michael Phelps training, who literally in 2 days sailed about 30 km in training mode. Even Sadovy did not see such perseverance and endurance. Russian swimmer Yevgeny Sadovy began to study the methodology and tactics of Phelps' “work”, and significantly improved his performance. After the doors of the big sport were closed in front of Eugene, he did not give up and continued to walk into the pool, but not as a swimmer, but as a coach. Since 1996, the Volga swim team began to train, but it did not last very long, since in 1998 Sadovy received the highest coaching category, after which he began to train athletes from the Russian national team and prepared them for world-class competitions. He works in tandem with his coach Viktor Borisovich Avdienko.
