Modern movie buffs are forced to live in difficult times of sequels and remakes; any relatively original work is perceived by the public as an event. This is exactly what one of the Russian film critics said about the film, noting that the film “A Robot Called Chappi” (actors, plot, idea itself) is something more than another Hollywood blockbuster that you can pass the evening with a box of popcorn in your hands. However, among American critics, the picture received mixed reviews and an average rating of 4.8 points out of a possible 10.
A fantastic action movie directed by Neil Blomkamp (Elysium is heaven on Earth, District 9) was shot based on his short film, released in 2004.
About the plot
The actions of the film “A Robot Named Chappy” (actors and roles are presented to your attention in the article) take place in the crime-ridden Johannesburg. Due to the lack of personnel and the inefficiency of the police, the government decides to introduce droids owned by an industrial corporation and are the development of the scientist Deon Wilson. The plan is successful, and the machines cope with the process of eliminating criminals. However, during the operation, one of the droids received severe damage. It is being prepared for disposal at the moment when D. Wilson takes the initiative to test artificial intelligence on a broken robot.

The screen appearance of a modern robot began to be developed long before the shooting of the film began. Two well-known companies worked on it at once: Weta Workshop (production part) and Image Engine (visual effects). A couple of years before the filming began, several test episodes were made in Johannesburg to understand that the idea could be developed further.
The role of the Chappy robot, which received artificial intelligence and consciousness, is entirely played by the South African actor Charlto Copley. This was not his first work with the director Neil Blomkamp, and he was also familiar to the audience by the role of the king from the fairy tale “The Malificent”. For uninitiated people, the process of filming a movie can generally seem fantastic. So N. Blomkamap, with the assistance of designers from Image Engine, already at the post-production stage “finished” the hero on top of Copley's movements and acting. Therefore, the viewer can notice the presence of the actor in each gesture of the robot, its pose and actions.
