Most of the United States of America’s army is known to us from films in which the military knows neither reproach, nor fear, nor pride. Attentive people must have noticed that the military ranks of the United States are quite different from the Russian. For example, in Russian, a sergeant is the same soldier, but with a little more power, and a captain is a low rank officer. And if you look at the same ranks, but only in the USA, it turns out that their sergeant is a big and powerful man, and the captain is something far, almost transcendental.

The military ranks of the US Army have a fairly large sergeant composition (6 ranks). The sergeant major and the command sergeant major, which many call posts rather than ranks, are representatives of sergeants in the army leadership who are trying to protect their interests, and at the same time, their superiors. Also, the US military ranks are the chief sergeant of command (one for each branch of the army and in all large units of the army) and the chief sergeant of the army (in the committee of the chief of staff). Probably, many have already noticed that the American army is characterized by double ranks. One of them is permanent, the other is temporary. For example, if a second lieutenant is appointed to the position of company commander, he is immediately assigned the temporary rank of captain. After a while, he “grows up” to the rank of first lieutenant, then to captain. And so - until the permanent rank coincides with the temporary one.
Now let's look at other US military ranks .
Army General - This is the highest military rank in the States. Its counterpart in other countries are Marshal and Field Marshal. Typically assigned during a war.
Commodore is a rank that belongs to the officers. This is a notch more than the captain, but less than the rear admiral. It was canceled in 1899, but when the Second World War began, then some US military ranks were temporarily restored, among them the Commodore.
The master sergeant is a sergeant in the US Army and many other countries. This title is in eighth place in the military hierarchy.
The first sergeant is a rank related to the sergeant of the US Army. This is almost the same as the master sergeant.
Private first class - a simple rank of conscript or the highest for an ordinary soldier. It is the third rank in the ground forces. It is located between the private and corporal (or specialist).
Sergeant of the first class - refers to the sergeant of the US Army and several other countries. Takes seventh place in a series of ranks, between the staff sergeant and the first sergeant or master sergeant.
Sergeant major (ground forces) - a rare military rank, which refers to the sergeant.
The specialist is the military rank of an ordinary US army. It is similar to the rank of corporal, but not included in the sergeant.
Senior Lieutenant - the junior rank of the officer corps of the army of many states, including Russia.
Staff sergeant - the rank of army, part of the sergeant. In the United States stands at the sixth step and is located between the ranks of the sergeant and sergeant of the first class.
In addition, the military ranks of the United States have another, called conditional, term - the cadet. This is a student at the West Point Military Academy of the United States of America.
