Postpartum period

The expectant mother for a long nine months every day approaches the climax - an exciting, long-awaited and joyful event, after which life takes on a completely different meaning. It is not surprising that the woman is worried about anxiety associated with the anticipation of childbirth, because she walked to this day for approximately 280 days.

A lot of books and articles have been written about what happens before and during childbirth, but the postpartum period is somehow undeservedly ignored.

The first month, counted immediately after childbirth, is often called the tenth month of the gestation period, thereby making it clear how important it is for the body of the newly-born mom.

Generally speaking, the postpartum period lasts about eight weeks after the baby is born. At this time, the activity of many internal organs increases.

For example, the kidneys begin to actively produce fluid, due to which the woman in labor has to go to the toilet very often, the uterus contracts, decreasing in size, so that by the end of the postpartum period it acquires the dimensions of its usual state.

The early postpartum period implies fatigue and drowsiness in the newly minted mother, especially immediately after the baby is born, possible pains in the perineum and external genital organs, which is associated with a sufficiently large stretching of many tissues during childbirth.

Gradually, the health of the woman in childbirth is normalized, the pains, although not intense, pass away. If a woman has had a cesarean section, then her stitches may hurt.

Periodically, in the postpartum period, the woman’s uterus contracts, resembling weak contractions, and this process is less painful in primiparas than in experienced mothers. In a word, the female body begins to actively return to its former prenatal state.

The physiology of the postpartum period is such that a woman immediately after the birth of her baby for almost a day does not feel the urge to urinate. This is because the tone of the abdominal cavity in her is greatly reduced, and the neck of the bladder swells due to compression during childbirth. Therefore, to stimulate the work of the urethra, you need to move a lot, empty the bladder every three to four hours so as not to interfere with the contraction of the uterus.

The stool of a woman who has recently given birth should be within three days, although, as a rule, these days she often has constipation, the cause of which is the restriction of motor function, malnutrition, as well as the condition of the abdominal walls. Therefore, a woman must herself consciously adjust her food and move a lot. In such cases, kefir and prunes help well. However, if the stool does not normalize on the fourth day, then you must definitely give the young mom an enema.

Already on the third day in the postpartum period, mother begins to increase breast milk, the mammary glands swell and hurt, giving into the armpit. Therefore, from now on, it is necessary to drastically limit the intake of fluid, bringing it to 800 milliliters per day, and more often feed your baby.

Everyone knows that during pregnancy the amount of female sex hormones reaches its maximum limit, and immediately after the birth of a child their level drops sharply. Therefore, many young mothers in the postpartum period experience devastation, irritability and causeless anxiety. As a rule, such phenomena pass by themselves, however, if a woman feels an aggravation of the condition - apathy, a sense of fear, hostility to the baby, then you need to contact a specialist.

The woman’s food in the postpartum period should be nutritious and easily digestible, it is necessary to include cottage cheese, meat, vegetable oil, some vegetables and fruits in the diet, and with established lactation, increase the amount of liquid consumed to two liters.

The body of a woman fully recovers from pregnancy in almost two years.
