A point is a real headache now. Wherever we go, everywhere and it all depends on the ratings. Even our purchases sometimes depend on how active we are and how many points are on our card. It’s about the assessments that we’ll talk about today, but not only. In other words, the meaning of the word “score” in the area of our attention, as well as its synonyms.
Value
Most students think something like this: “We’ll finish school, and the time of freedom will begin, we finally owe nothing to anyone!” It’s sad, of course, to disappoint them, but in fact, everything will only begin. If someone sends stops to the university, then there will also be grades, then at work there will be performance indicators, and it does not matter what the person is busy with. The control of society is truly omnipresent. In other words, points are what accompanies us relentlessly. And if so, then at least let us know the meaning of this word. The explanatory dictionary will help us with this:
- A unit for assessing the degree, strength of a physical phenomenon.
- Digital mark of success (in educational institutions, in sports).
Despite the fact that the first meaning in the dictionary is “special”, sometimes in everyday situations you can hear an assessment of something like this on a ten-point scale. For example, if a mother came angry from work, and a little later her father came, he may ask his son: “How many points does our mother get angry with today?” Depending on the number, the situation for the coming evening will be clear.
The educational system in Japan and its features
Regarding the second meaning, examples are redundant. A person in Russia learns what a point is when he first crosses the threshold of a school. Honestly, kindergartens somehow fell out of sight, but it seems that even there is an analogue of the grades. By the way, I recall the fact that is mentioned in the novel "Tokyo Bride" by Amelie Notomb, it concerns the education system in Japan. There, children at the age of 5 pass some exams; the latter predetermine the whole fate of a person, starting from the future school and ending with the place of work. Apparently, in Japan it is believed that a person at 5 years old is already quite old. So we are still not so bad. There is only one conclusion: for the Land of the Rising Sun, points are almost everything.
Synonyms
The rare case when, probably, semantic analogues are not needed, and many would like the object of research to not exist. But, unfortunately, we are not yet able to abandon the evaluation system. Therefore, we offer the reader to reconcile and consider a list of synonyms:
Not so, huh? There are words in Russian that are practically uncontested. You might even think what exactly this is connected with. Probably with their exceptional value to people. As Comrade Stalin said, “there are no irreplaceable people,” but there are irreplaceable words. A point is a great example of almost irreplaceable words.
