Among the variety of varnishes, bitumen occupies a special place. A few years ago, its use declined sharply. It was mainly used for processing car parts. But more recently, a fashionable trend in the design of premises has appeared - artificial aging. And the demand for bitumen varnish has increased again.
Production Features
The basis of this tool is bitumen. But to give the solution certain technical characteristics (for example, ductility, heat resistance), resins are added. They are of two types: synthetic and natural. The latter is known to all rosin. Among artificial ones, resins such as copal can be distinguished. During the manufacturing process, the mixture is heated to high temperatures (280 degrees), and then cooled and solvents added. In the past, turpentine was most often used, today, in addition to it, solvent, white spirit or a mixture of these components can be used. However, bitumen varnish is also based on oils. As a rule, flaxseed or tunga is used for this purpose. To them are added more salts of fatty acids - manganese, cobalt, lead. And so it turns out bitumen varnish. Buying it today is not difficult.
Bitumen varnish: specifications
The use of bitumen varnish is due to its technical characteristics. Among them can be distinguished such as:
- plastic;
- resistance to high temperatures and many chemicals;
- moisture resistance.
It is believed that bitumen varnish has anti-corrosion properties, which is why it is used to protect metal products. Actually this is not true. Under the influence of atmospheric phenomena, it can protect against rust only for a while. Therefore, it processes those products that need to be protected for a short period of time - 6 months if the treatment is carried out using one layer of varnish. The use of this tool for this purpose is largely due to the fact that it has a low cost.
Bitumen varnish has many varieties. The classification is based on the main properties of the compounds. Today, BT-123 bitumen varnish is in demand, the characteristics of which allow it to be used not only as a protective agent for metal and non-metal structures. Often this composition is used for the manufacture of aluminum paint. At the same time, special auxiliary substances are added that accelerate the drying process.
Design bitumen
The aging effect is a distinctive detail of modern country houses. And in this, bitumen varnish acts as the main assistant. It is applied to the surface either with a regular brush or with a spray gun. The thinner the layers, the better the result. When creating the effect of aging on top of the varnish, it is recommended to apply a shellac coating. As a rule, bitumen varnish is used to process external structures - fences, stairs, fences. It should be remembered that you can not use this tool near fire.
Bitumen varnish today rightfully regained the leading position among its film counterparts.
