Childhood

In 1983, in the far northern city of Kurgan, Yana Romanova was born. The biography of the girl could have developed differently, the biathlon coach Valery Kondakov did not appear in her life. At the age of 10, she began to practice in the ski section and studied the biathlon with interest.

At the age of seventeen, the athlete moved to Omsk to further develop her skills. The prospects of Yana Romanova were not universally assessed with optimism. However, at the national junior competitions in 2002, she was among the thirty best and is in the zone of attention of the national team coaches. In 2004-2005, Yana Romanova was gradually approaching participation in the European Cup.

The first major success comes to her in 2007. Once in the relay team at the Universiade, she, along with her teammates, won the bronze award.

In 2009, Yana Romanova successfully performs at the European Championship. She managed to win silver in the sprint race and received a bronze medal in the pursuit. In the same year, she already won three gold at the Russian championship in Uvat.

But unfortunately, the athlete’s life consists not only of ups and victories. Even in the career of the most successful biathlete there is a decline. In the 2011-2012 season, in the overall standings of the World Cup, Yana Romanova was only in her fifties. Not too successful was the debut at the Olympics. Speaking in Vancouver in the individual race, she failed and did not even get into the first fifty.

Extra chance and success at the Sochi Olympics

After unsuccessful seasons, Yana Romanova again had to gain the trust of coaches. She loses her place in the national team and is forced to regain her reputation by speaking at the All-Russian Games.

Nevertheless, the results of Yana did not allow her to enter the national team to participate in the Olympic Games in Sochi. A gift of fate for Romanova was the decision to create two groups in the women's team for selection for the main tournament. Jana falls into the group of the German specialist Pichler. According to the athlete, he managed to create a friendly and benevolent atmosphere in the team, which removed the tension and allowed him to focus exclusively on sports.

Ultimately, Yana managed to earn the right to compete in Sochi. Performances in individual disciplines were not very successful, but the relay race was the main start for the athlete. Here she has already done her best and has made a huge contribution to the silver award won by the team.
