From May to September 2007, the International Olympic Committee accepted applications to determine where the 2016 Summer Olympics will be held. Baku, Doha, the Spanish, Brazilian, Japanese and Czech capitals, as well as the largest American city of Chicago and our Northern capital, expressed their desire to host these largest world sports competitions . However, the latter withdrew its application after Russia received the right to host the winter games on its territory. In June 2008, four cities out of all applicants reached the final. They became Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Chicago and Madrid.
Summer Olympics 2016: venue
The final round of voting took place on October 2, 2009 at the hundred and twenty-first session of the IOC in Danish Copenhagen. The world learned about the voting results from the message of the president of this organization, Jacques Rogge, whose live broadcast was broadcast by all the leading television channels of the planet. As a result of three rounds, the Brazilian Rio de Janeiro was able to beat Madrid. At the same time, Tokyo and Chicago, who also reached the final, dropped out during the previous two. And if the failure of the capital of Japan did not come as a surprise, the largest American city (the application of which the US president and his wife came to help), considered one of the favorites, lost completely inexplicably.
First time on the South American continent
Prior to this, South America had never been able to host these large and prestigious sports competitions, so the Brazilian delegation laid its main emphasis on this. Rio de Janeiro, which will host the 2016 Summer Olympics, presented its application not only on behalf of the city, or even the country, but on behalf of the entire continent. In addition, this year, two years before the start of the main summer sports forum, Brazil will host the World Cup. Interestingly, this circumstance prior to the voting of the IOC members on the issue of where the 2016 Summer Olympics will be held was called one of the weak points when considering Rio's candidacy.

They are actively reducing their crime rates in order to be able to show Rio from the best side. For this purpose, numerous additional police detachments have already been created today, which began to patrol city slums and criminal areas. This work has already yielded positive results, significantly reducing the crime rate. By the end of this year, the Rio de Janeiro authorities plan to reduce this level to almost zero.
State of readiness
In the summer of 2012, the Commission of the Olympic Committee came to the city, where the next summer Olympics 2016 will be held, with a check. Then it was noted that so far the most important infrastructure facilities, such as the press center and the Olympic Park, have not been launched in Rio de Janeiro, nor have contractors been identified who will be involved in the construction of the shooting complex.
At the same time, the construction of all other Olympic venues has already begun in the city, the completion and commissioning of which is expected by the end of 2015. These include all the largest infrastructure buildings and major projects, such as metro lines, highways and many others. The authorities of Rio de Janeiro then said that they planned the construction of the Olympic park in the second half of 2012, and all sports facilities that will be erected in the Deodoro area will be completed in 2013. And today, the IOC notes that the organizers have fulfilled their word: this is evidenced by the next test.

The Brazilians promise that the spectacle of the opening of the Olympics, which, like the closing, will be held at the world famous stadium of Maracana, will be the most striking and simply fantastic. Program
Since the 2016 Olympics is summer, its sports will remain the same as in previous competitions. However, the program, by decision of the IOC, will include two new ones that will be selected from seven applicants. The fact that the list of competitions will increase, it became known back in 2009. Seven sports associations submitted their applications to the International Olympic Committee, but only two of them will be selected.
